Irreversible *Spoiler Warning*/ *Graphic Warning*

Dont know how many people have scene this film. In my estimation this is the best film of the year. Nothing has moved me and provoked me to think like this.

Only two other times have I been so disturbed/moved by a film. They are "Dancer In The Dark" and "Man Bite Dog".

Some argue this is a mainstream smut film but i dont...The violence in this film is needed. Its needed to help you better understand and relate to the characters actions. Additionally, it makes you think about your own behavior. How we all take things for granted. How we all get in irrelevant arguements and how we ignore the "irreversible" consequences of those actions.

For those interested in seeing the "selling" points of the movie..or for those who want to know how it was all done, click the link below:

Im interesting in hearing what others think about Irreversible...Anyone else see it?

Bananacologne started a good thread about "Irreversible" and the topic of violence about a month or two ago...I can't remember what it was called, though.

To expand:

I remember he talked about the filming technique (some sort of high-frequency sound used to literally make people feel ill), along with gratuitous violence vs. eye-opening violence. There was a lot more, but I can't remember right off the bat.

I remember that I said I thought I personally didn't want or need to see the film, because I'm not the sort of person to put my head in the sand and pretend that all of life and humanity is lovely. And that as a social worker (and someone who has worked directly with plenty of rape/domestic violence victims) I see enough of it on a day to day basis.

It all led to a GREAT orgnote discussion between myself and 'Nana... biggrin

Too bad the SEARCH function isn't working! wink

Seriously, though, orgnote Banana and see if he'll find it and post it here for you as something to continue upon!

ahhh ic...

well, i can understand how some people are put off by the violence...i saw it in a theater with over 90% women who all stuck around for the entire picture and whom all seemed to share an appreciation for the film...

the sound and edit technique only make up about 15 minutes of the film...for me, the violence were accents to a much larger story and discussion that followed...

and thats what im curious about...not neccesarily peoples reaction to the violence (which if you ask me were just a marketing tool and film making stunt by the director) but more so how one reacted to the meaning of it all...

i happen to think that the director Gasper Noe is on his way to being the next Lars Von Trier or David Lynch...while the film was brutily honest in its depiction of violence, its the story and characters that matter...

For me, too, it was one of the better films of LAST year. Many people dissed it, some for the violence (which i think is stupid), others for intention to shock or the lousy execution of an overly simplistic message (mayb they have point, but that's not how i xperienced it, so).
But as i said, i thought it was great from many points of view and definately worked as a whole. I'd recommand it to anyone who is over 16. The majority won't like what they see, but that kinda is the point.

...It's all relative. Peter Pan's out at Christmas, so you'll be sorted.

it canĀ“t be worse than that "Irrevesible" shit all the "modern" types try to hail as a masterpiece when it is nothing else but a pathetic attempt at being controversial and shocking for the sake of it

anyone comparing the director of such shit to the genius of david lynch for example needs to have his taste in cinema seriously checked
