Can space travel ever be safe?

Nasa has pledged to introduce changes following a scathing independent report into the fatal break-up of the Columbia space shuttle.
The independent inquiry into the Columbia space shuttle said that Nasa managers were "as much a cause" of the tragedy as technical faults.
The shuttle disintegrated as it re-entered the Earth's atmosphere on February 1, killing all seven astronauts.

No. Shit can always happen. We still have plane accidents and that's in our own atmosphere. It will never be foolproof - nothing ever is.
I mean, like, where is the sun?

Well truly if you look at it, it the space program (space shuttle) has been very successfull in it's program but like Nat said nothing concerning that kind of exploration is foolproof when planes crash in the earth atmosphere and kill dozens or hundreds of people at a time, it's all chance and hope.

I have always been interested in the space program myself and have even considered trying out for the space program despite the accidents.
Never let tragedy stop you, look at all the people that fly everyday.

Have a mr.green and have a nice day.

NASA is a government monopoly. Had space exploration been unregulated, there would have been a McDonald's on the moon by now.
Fear is the mind-killer.

A compelling reason to keep space travel regulated if ever there was one smile

I don't want to look up at the moon on a clear night to spot little Starbucks logos...

Can taking a walk to the corner store for a bag of chips ever be safe?
