Check out Web MD Medical News Friday, August 22, 2003

hmmm is there a conspiracy goin on here to make Americans eat more...???

According to this article, a study was done showing 7% of French people are obese, compared with 30% Americans.

Some bits:

"The average portion size (servings - that is)in Paris was 25% smaller than in Philly."

"Chinese restaurants in Philly served meals that were 72% bigger than Parisian Chinese restaurants."

"A candy bar in Philadelphia ws 41% larger thant he same candy bar sold in Paris".

"A soft drink was 52% larger, and a hot dog was 62% larger."

"A carton of yogurt was 82% larger".

Things that make you go hmmm

Why would this make you go "hmmm?" I mean, it's no secret that we Americans are gluttons...size means everything. We are hella fat cause we eat hella shitty, and lots of it. It's common knowledge, at least among those who care to read, that eating till you're stuffed just isn't good for you. This is what I don't get about conservatives...they scream that we should be able to consume what we want, that veggies are fags, etc. yet, the fact that we are a FAT society is probably the biggest contributor to the general bad health of America, which translates into outrageous medical costs. But conservatives are against a healthcare plan that would take care of everyone. if we all just quit eating BK and McD, stuffing ourselves at buffets simply because we can, many things would take care of themselves. But no...Americans are supposed to be free to do as they please, regardless of the consequences to the entire population. I weigh in at a slim 175 at 5'11"...no health problems, but a cut of my hard-earned coin goes to help some fat ass get a triple-bypass cause he liked eating what he wanted to eat. Go figure.

Well personally I'm a vegetarian, and have been one for years. I don't eat meat or fish. I only eat small portions.

I was only commenting "hmmm" because I was wondering why these portions in AMERICA are the way they are. Who decided to give these LARGE portions, and WHY?

THEY JUST HAD TO KNOW. HMMM

Sorry bout that...I was referring to the general attitude of Americans when we are presented with this type of common sense info...they look at it like, "hey, that makes sense...why didn't I think of that?"
But I think the media by and large is mostly responsible for the eating habits of America...we are inundated with so many reminders to eat this and that, gorge yourself, etc., that it's become weird to actually only eat small portions 6 times per day as opposed to one or two huge ones. I was watching that commercial for Hungry Man dinner when I was writing that...the one where one guy asks, "what did you eat for dinner?", and the guy answers quiche. The little girl at the table blows out some candles on the cake, and the guy who ate quiche is blown over...implying that eating little girlie thing like that isn't manly...you should eat Hungry Man dinners. I thought it was a perfect example.

It's alright! smile

Sad when the little girl grows up, sees all that food on TV to eat, then sees the picture perfect model that is on TV, and thinks she is suppose to look like that.
Then you know what happens.

There are all kinds of influences on the screen that generate bad ideas for everyone.

I've always wondered why there aren't more good health food restuarants around town!

I guess it is true, we kind of are what we eat.

More health food restuarants would be like actual music on the radio...it would make people think, and all of these corps. making money hand over foot due to utter ignorance would have to actually change!

Yeah, and kids would be healthier, and it would help out the moms that don't have time to cook.

Some don't even realize how good - healthy food can taste!

Another French weight control secret:

Heavy tobacco use. Of course you'll suffer in a variety of other ways, but at least your average BMI will compare favorably to overfed Americans.
