I saw it as well this morning. I think at the end (to answer your question, gypsy), Donnie went back in time and sacrificed his life to save his girl and to save everyone else that he lost.

Indeed it was pretty trippy. But the tp honor goes to the soundtrack. They had all the New Wave cuts. That was sweet. woot!

My girlfriend said it might have something to with an alternate universe, so we decided to put the movie in and watch it with the commentary on and in fact the director even says when it hits midnight it splits into an alternate universe. definately watch the commentary of the film. the director explains everything.

You know what flipped me out??...I always thought that the last words spoken in that film was when Donnie's gf says "No.." to the boy standing next to her...that they just wave into the camera and it ends...But in reality, the last words spoken in "Donnie Darko" are the words coming over the police radio dispatch...and it says something like "All units should be back to normal frequency", right before the screen goes black...

When I realized the whole concept of parallel/alternate universes, I realized that the director put that last bit of dialogue in as a way of saying "Ok...everything's back to normal now...your lives have been put back on it's normal track"...

I am actually still watching the movie with the commentary on. (this is the bizillionth time I have seen this movie by the way) I am at the part when the show the mother and little sister on the plane. I have never heard that I don't think so it will be coming up shortly... they are going over what everyone is realizing after the engine falls. here it comes...they aren't saying anything about that. and they were talking over the last words so I didn't hear it again! DAMITT!! now I am going to have to watch it again without the commentary.

Most people have to watch the movie about 3 times to get this movie. Ive watched it a few times, and have discussed it to many times to count. The movie actually makes perfect sense... all you have to do his know the philosophy of time travel.

Anyhoo, if you have any questions about the movie, like Who was that bunny dude? go to Donniedarko.com . After awhile you will find Grandma deaths book, and taht will pretty much explain everything to you. Anotherlovetoo, I agree. Quite a good flick wink

a night like that is considered cruel and unusual punnishment in most areas of the country.

i thought both Donnie Darko and Mulholland Dr. sucked a fat one.

why cant every movie be like Big Lebowski?
