In Ann Arbor, MI they have a yearly event called the "Hash Bash" and I've gone for about 10 years.

Every year they bring up somebody in a wheelchair and say "he/she is in a wheel chair for an ounce of pot".Something to do with the DEA kicked in their door and put them in a wheel chair. Then Chong does a ten minute speech about legalizing it.

IMHO the "Legalize It" cause would have more of a solid foundation if we could get better faous representation. Woody Harrelson? Chong? The Black Crowes?

I like those people but it's not a super famous actor, Bill Gates or a government official.

There is no logical reason for weed to be illegal.

"It's bad for you" - So? A lot of things are 'bad for you'.

(My favorite) "It leads to harder drugs" - Certainly this is primitive thinking. It's like saying that beer leads to whisky, masturbation leads to intercourse, bungee jumping leads to skydiving or water pistols lead to firearms. OF COURSE marijuana is a "gateway drug". If you wanted to cop a buzz, would you begin by jacking a gram of heroin in your arm or freebasing an 8-ball?

What a dumb argument.

Yes.

Legalize.

Now.

There's a documentary called "Grass" I saw recently that describes the legal history of pot. Narrated by Woody Harrelson, and is very funny and very good.

Check it out.

In Cali they have "Regae by the river" up north in Humbolt County. A large number of people, with a low rate of violence.

We already lose 400,000 people in this country each year to tobacco related illnesses, so why promote another smoked product with similarly serious cardiac, pulmonary, and carcinogenic consequences?

When do personal choices prevail over laws protecting public health? Are we moving forward or backward by, for example, regulating tobacco, warning pregnant mothers not to drink or smoke, demanding that people wear seatbelts while driving cars or helmets when riding motorcycles, and requiring food manufacturers to disclose the nutritional content and production methods for their products?

Completely legalize marijuana? I don't think so. But that doesn't mean I believe people should go to jail for using it. I'd make public use about as serious an infraction as a traffic violation. Private would be undetected and not pursued, unless you stumble outside and attempt to drive, then you would be as accountable as the person driving while drunk. It may be hard to believe, but fewer people use mj bacause it is illegal and less available, and that's okay with me.

Sounds like a sensible approach to me. But I'm not sure how tolerated it actually is in most of Europe. I've been to various European countries several times (admittedly never to Holland) and have yet to see Europeans casually toking while strolling down the street or hanging out at cafes.

I would love to go to Holland and have a cop light my joint. I saw that on a postcard once.
