Different cultures and different people all hold different ideals of beauty. For example, some African cultures value heavier, bigger women as being the ideal, so I don't judge if I see a black guy with a white woman who is a bit chubbier than my own tastes prefer. To say that white women who date black guys are usually "trailer tramps" is just ridiculous though. Also, when dating a person from outside your own culture or race, such assumptions about beauty are thrown out the window anyway. For example, my wife is Japanese but the type of Japanese woman I find beautiful probably differs quite a lot from what a Japanese guy might be attracted to. Same goes for the black women I might find attractive... they won't necessarily be the ones that makes a black man's jaw drop. Tastes are different, and thankfully there are tastes so varied around the world that almost every shape, size and colour is permitted the opportunity to procreate Do you realize what you just said without saying it? You basically said you're attracted to women outside your race who look less ethnic than what they are. At least that's what it sounds like (i.e. a light-skinned black girl with thin lips and a small nose or the asian girl who's eyes aren't as "asian" looking). No that ISN'T what I said. Read again, more carefully. What I am saying is, people have different ideals of beauty. The Japanese women I find attractive, for example, are probably considered quite ordinary in Japan - where unfortunately nowadays it is more popular to look western - so some Japanese guys nowadays go for taller, big-chested girls with dyed brown hair, big eyes etc. Japanese guys often want a Japanese woman that looks more western, I want a Japanese woman who looks Japanese. What I'm saying is, the things I find attractive in a woman aren't necessarily the same as what other people will. We're all different so we can't judge other people's values so harshly, it depends totally on your cultural context. This applies equally to black guys who date white women are a little "heavier" than the generic western image of white beauty too. Those women aren't "cast offs" just because they don't fit the western world's white image of beauty and slimness - so if they can find a black man who appreciates them for what they are, where's the problem? | |

Well I'm not 100% sure I get the food analogy, because the point is that no one colour is the "right" one, or a better option. Obviously there are many people in the world for whom the white image of beauty works very well, but my point was that those ideals of beauty (in fashion etc) needs to expand to represent today's more multicoloured societies. And we DEFINITELY shouldn't be trying to sell that image of white beauty to Asian countries where most of the women do not and can not possibly ever look anything the image of beauty being fed to them.
I think it's quite natural to expect that in a predominantly white country (such as Ireland) that our ideals of female beauty involve white women. But by the same token, the Japanese ideals of female beauty should involve a yellow woman, not a white woman or "the palest possible yellow model they could find, covered in foundation to make her even whiter"). | |

yo yo yo, i love my daughters, so don't get to wild with whut you say. Great post BAD. Yeah if I have kids, I've no doubt they might have a hard time like that, due to being half Irish and half Japanese. Shit, they'll need to speak 3 languages which will be hard enough (Irish, Japanese, English)
But at the same time, they'll probably look very exotic and be considered good-looking (assuming they get my brains and my wife's looks - if it is the other way around they are screwed haha) so it's not all bad. Weird though that you mention your daughters would catch hell for whatever their choice in husbands or boyfriends... Maybe I'm being naive since I myself married outside my race, but over here, no one really gives a shit who you go out with - I can't imagine ever getting any shit for your choice of partner like that. It must be an American thing... Sure my grandmother (being quite old and from an old-generation with old attitudes) was quite surprised the first time I brought home a Japanese girl to meet my family but she wouldn't say anything of it. | |
