OK to be serious for a second...

In college I had to read a study by a sociologist who's position on interracial dating was that black men who dated white women were doing so out of self hate. This Dr. said that black men were so basically fucked up and despised themselves so much that they desired a white women as a way of saying fuck you to the white male culture. I can't remember who wrote the paper, but if I can find it I will post it here.

I personally, think that that Dr. was full of it, but I just might be naive. I am a white women, blonde, blue eyes. I have never dated a man of color, but I would have no problem doing so. In truth race isn't a factor to me. I see all people no matter their color, creed or socioeconomic backgrounds, sexual orientation, etc., as the same. I feel we are all made in God's image and we all have something to share with each other. I see no need for hate. We are all on this earth to love. So why get pissed off when two people are doing just that?

It's the connotation of the word halfbreed that pisses me off. I don't get mad when someone calls me nigga because it's something I hear daily, it's just another way of saying dude or man or bruh ain't no harm done there, but if a person calls me nigger then that's when we'd be fighting.

By the way does that make Eric Benet a half traitor to his race for marrying Halle?

I'm not sure about this though... from looking at modern pop culture, I'd say it has never been more "fashionable" to be a black American woman. Of course the exploitative representation of black women in pop culture is a whole other issue, but in terms of the fashions, speech, white girls trying to be black, pop starlets trying to do R&B etc - black is "cool". Kids nowadays are bombarded with nothing but images of black coolness - yes it's all a white-corporate-America penned fiction but that's what kids are hit with nowadays on MTV. Shit, even I grew up with posters of Janet on my wall (not Madonna or Kylie) and I was extremely disappointed as a teenager to discover I was unable to grow dreadlocks

What does piss me off though, is the way big western fashion labels and stores pushing the same western image of white beauty worldwide. It irks me that strolling around Ginza in Tokyo you'll see loads of posters with white female faces on them, you'll see white mannequins in shop windows, Open a Japanese women's magazine and it's full of white faces, pale skin, blue eyes, blonde hair. Why try and convince Japanese women that they need to look like the western world's vision of white beauty? If you are short, with yellow skin, a small bust, and black hair... why is fashion telling you to be tall, white, busty, with blonde hair and blue eyes? Ridiculous!

As for the "trophy" thing... it happens everywhere. I dated a Japanese girl once where I definitely felt I was a "fashion accessory" - having a European boyfriend was a kinda status-symbol I guess. Similarly, you might see white guys with a black girl on their arm like a piece of jewelry sometimes, or a white girl showing off her muscle-bound black beau to her mates etc. But I wouldn't say it's the norm at all - most interracial couples I know of (quite a few, actually) and that I've seen just look like any other couple in love. It seems a shame to malign a couple (black guy / white woman) because of such preconceptions of the "trophy wife" etc.

Maybe this is all a bigger issue in America, but where I come from no one really gives a fuck what kind of woman I sleep with. I certainly wouldn't get any attitude from an Irish female who felt I was disrespecting Irish women because I'm married to a Japanese woman That just doesn't happen.

The truth is a black woman is the strength and backbone to a black man life.Sometimes men find a black woman's strength hard to deal it. I think alot of reasons why brothas decides 2 date other women, is because they can't deal with the strength we have or they're just intimindated by it.
