that's gonna be one hell of a bitch fight when they both find out. WTF!!! He's banging Wonder Woman! CatWoman I can see but damn. What a BatMack. even better, he's also being drawn by Jim Lee, which has, unsprisingly made "Batman" the #1 selling book at the moment.

CarrieMpls said: I always liked Neil Gaiman as a writer, so I liked the Sandman series and his graphic novels, although I can't remember the name of the artist that I liked the most that illustrated many of them.
There was a comic called "Gregory" about a nearly mute 6 or 7 year old who lived in an insane asylum in a padded room with a rat and a cockroach for a friend that I really liked too. Milk and Cheese is a classis, as is Tank Girl. And I liked Love and Rockets for a while too. I haven't looked at a comic book in quite a while though. I'll have to head to my local comic store. He's an awesome novelist as well, yes I love everything I've read by him, I never got around to reading his collaboration with Terry Pratchett, mainly cos I think Mr. Pratchett is I highly recommend "Neverwhere", "Stardust" and "American Gods".

Violent Cases is also on par with his Arkham Asylum art. It's about a boy who meets Al Capone's osteopath and his recollection about that meeting. It's pretty disturbing but still cool.
I haven't. I'll have to pick that up soon. Wow! I forgot how much I loved comics. My very first roommate in my very first apartment introduced me to all that stuff around 9 years ago or so. I just read all of his. I picked up a few Neil Gaiman graphic novels over the years, but I haven't really been in a comic book store since. I think I'm stopping on my way home tonight. Thanks for the suggestion! you went to the comic book store with me when i was in Minneapolis and, i think you actually bought something... something by Neil Gaiman in fact. btw, he has some weird new mini-series coming out from Marvel in the next few months. it's supposedly something really great and a big deal, but i don't know if it's super-hero-y type stuff or not. i believe, however, that it's a period piece setting for some Marvel characters.

Yes, that's right! But that was an exception. That was over a year ago (can you believe it?) and I haven't been in there since. Although I was gonna go in a few weeks ago when I was having breakfast downtown, but it was closed. So now I will go tomorrow (as I remembered I'm going to see my friends newborn twin boys in the hospital tonight) and report back what I bought. And thanks for the tip! I'll be looking out for it. |

That's him!! My favorite comic book/graphic novel artist. Dave McKean. I loved Arkham Asylum too. So dark and gorgeous. YES! Dave McKean is the Man!!! His covers for Sandman are the best. Have you read Cages? It's all done by him. It's pen and ink mostly but it's incredible stuff. Pick it up if you get the chance. Violent Cases is also on par with his Arkham Asylum art. It's about a boy who meets Al Capone's osteopath and his recollection about that meeting. It's pretty disturbing but still cool. Seconded... I loved his work on Arkham Asylum and Sandman. Cages was really great too! Other stuff I like... Batman is brilliant. I really liked the "Legends of the Dark Knight" series particularly. I also liked Sandman, and Hellblazer... and all the 2000AD stuff like Strontium Dog and Sláine, ABC Warriors etc. I love Carlos Ezquerra's Dredd, and also Third World War etc. I gotta say though, the UK Marvel Transformers comics were cool too!

mine. past: the unprecedented 16 year Chris Claremont run on the "Uncanny X-Men" present: not coincidentally, Chris Claremont's "X-treme X-Men" (though it has a horrible, horrible title). yes, i'm an old-fashioned kind of guy, that thinks there should be some actual "reading" involved in reading a comic book. Claremont's responsible for Extreme X-Men?! I stayed away from the other X-titles (there's too many) aside from Uncanny. How is it? Other than Uncanny, I don't know what the hell's going on in the other books. of the 4 mainstream Marvel Universe titles with the word "X-Men" in them (wich includes Uncanny, New, X-Treme, and Unlimited, but not Ultimate), Uncanny is one of THE TWO that you should NOT read. Unlimited being the other... X-treme is Claremont doing what Claremont does, which is to the liking of some, and not to the liking of others. Uncanny is written by Chuck Austen, and has the vibe of the commercial/ultra-angsty/soap-oper-y/boring/cliched/nauseating 90's X-books New X-Men is Grant Morrison's book, and has become the flagship title of the X-books. it's also very good, and weird, and neat, and cool. i like it a lot. but i like Claremont's X-treme X-Men better. Cool thanks for the tips. I actually stopped reading Uncanny anyway. I admit I was hooked on the last story line but was disappointed with the climax of the story arc. As far as New X-Men is concerned, I have been keeping tabs on it. You're right though it is weird. But I like it. I'll have to check out Xtreme. I've always liked Claremont so I'll give it a try. It is a period piece and I believe it's called 1602. It'll have Marvel characters such as Dr. Strange, Daredevil etc. There's a small article in this month's Wizard that'd give more details. Warlock by Jim Starlin. I'm still doing my damnedest to trace those comics after losing them at college...who can forget Pip The Troll???
Frank Miller's Elektra saga deserves special mention too Manhunter, by Goodwin & Simonson is pretty nearly unbeatable stuff, even by today's standards... Oh, and as far as I'm concerned, Neal Adams' was the definitive Batman . "You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person."

I'd have to say my past favorites were Claremont's "Uncanny X-Men" tied with the original "Eastman and Laird's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turles."
