The apartment scene never fails to amuse me!

i've lived in my apartment for nearly 2 years now, and it's been kick-ass...no nosy neighbors, no loud-assed folks down the hall (at least not on the floor i live on), none of that.

then why the fuckin fuck does this other realty company keep mailin me and the other tenants of the building these stoopid flyers, invitin us to move to their apartment complex?! thing of it is that the other apartment (which i'll call 'apartment b' from here on out) is one of those pricey frou-frou apartments--sure, most of your utilities are paid n'shit, but i'd much rather keep payin for my own shit than havin to pay both my arms and a foot for some frou-frou shit.

and it ain't like it's different other apartments sendin flyers--apartment b's like the only one who ever sends shit. fuck ya, apartment b...i'm quite happy with my free heat & water and my $440 rent fee...thanx. flip u

...just had to rant some. anybody else go through this?

Snaps, I hate to break it to ya dahling, but there is going to be a point where you're gonna wanna pay both of your arms and legs to stay in a frou-frou apartment. sad

I use to be the same way but now I'm like "I can only be on the uppereast side."

ummm, not all of the places in mpls are this cheap, believe me evillol i lucked out when i found the place i live at now...i have a studio apartment, which is one of the reasons why it's so cheap...studios and 1-bedrooms run between $500-$700 here, depends on where the place is located and the amenities, if any.

Dansa's got a deal and a half, though.

I'm apartment hunting myself. I'm guessing I won't find a decent 1 bedroom in an area I want to live in for less than $600.

Cheap by some standards though, I suppose.

i've never liked frou-frou livin arrangements--the only qualifications i have for apartments are:

star the water's free

star the heat/a.c. is free (most places here in mpls have free heat included in the rent anyway)

star it's gotta be clean and well-kept--the place i live at now is awesome...the building i live in is 90+ years old and it's still lookin good cool and no vermin or creepy-crawlies, either!

star the rent's gotta be reasonable (cheap is good, too)

I ain't saying I'm better, all I was saying is that it was nicer, damn! rolleyes I know one thing though I ain't ducking gunshots or waking up to a smashed car window on a regular basis like I was. I use to stay way deep in a rough part of town, but I got fed up and moved away. once I got a taste of how it could be I was like shit you ain't gonna see my ass living over there ever again (god willing pray) BTW I'm content with a few blades of grass and a couple of trees also, but shit after staying two minutes away from the lake and next to a park you tend to grow a bit spoiled and set your standards a little bit higher. By the way I'm the worst person you could ever encounter so I in no way feel that I'm superior to anyone else. eyepop

Nope. But when I lived in my first apartment here, I used to get flyers left by my door or slipped under it saying, "Stop throwing your money down the drain on rent!" and suggesting that I buy a house in their cookie-cutter, suburban-style subdivisions.

Fortunately my next two apartments (including my current home) were/are in controlled-access buildings, so I don't get those things these days, except occasionally in the mail.

unless you want to live in Shitramento... studios are a bit cheaper, but it's still ridiculous. Two jobs are a necessity for my ass, especially since I'm paying my car off.

Two bedrooms, two bathrooms, dining room, living room, balcony with skyline view, good-sized kitchen (with dishwasher), washer and dryer, gas fireplace, water included, controlled access with intercom, access to three private swimming pools, an office that will gladly sign for packages, two parking slots, and a one car garage... all located downtown on the Central Canal. I think it's 1360 square feet (not including the garage).

Total rent? $1040 per month. nana

Maybe there is something to be said for Midwest living...

BTW, I could use a roommate come November. wink

I remember living in Boston back in 1998... $875 per month for a studio. And I had to pay four times the rent at lease signing (first month, last month, security deposit, and broker's fee). They wouldn't take my personal check either (even though it had plenty of time to clear before my lease started), and I didn't have a local bank account where I could get a cashier's check... so I had $3500 wired to me via Western Union.

Ever carried $3500 in $20 bills on the T (subway)? I felt like a drug dealer. lol

Around here you just have to pay the first month and usually a $200 security deposit ($500 at my current place) at lease signing... and we don't have the apartment broker racket. Oh, and they'll happily take a personal check. smile
