So, how was my day yesterday. (please read)

Hi everyone. As I usally use the org everyday, some of you may have wondered what happened to me yesterday.

I was happy when I woke up yesterday. I had a lot of plans. I had lots to do, I had to order Princes new album, and best of all I had planned to meet a felow orger in person. Someone I've grown close to in the last few months.

Anyway at about 2:50 yesterday I was walking through my staff room at work and my right knee dislocated. I heard a crunch as I stepped and my knee cap shot (I'd guess it was) 3" to the right and as I fell to the floor in the most pain I've ever felt it shot back in again. I yelled "FUCK" as loud as humanly posible and all the avalible staff rushed in to help me. For the first 5 minutes I was in spasums and in incredible pain. I didn't dare move my leg. It was only for about 5 minutes, after the pain went I stoped panicing and was able to relax. I waited 35 minutes for an ambulance regardless of the fact that my shop is 2 roads away from the best hospital in the county (a county is Engands equivilent to a very small state I guess). Anyway, the parmedics came in and were very helpful. I couldn't bend my knee so I had to hop into the ambulance.
When I got to the hosptal I was placed into a wheel chair (but this wheel chair wasn't the regular kind that you would expect) All for wheels were the same size meaning I had no control of the chair. It was simply something to drag me around in. I was put in the waiting room and needed to go to the toilet, but as I had no control I just had to sit and wait. After aproximitly an hour (which was actully good considering the the guys in the ambulance told me the hospital was busy and I'd have to wait aproximatly 4 hours) a doctor aproched me. Please bare in mind that I am not rasist in the least, but I'm sure this guy could hardly speak English which made talking about what had happened really dificult. I couldn't understand half the crap he was saying.
Firstly I was put in a small office where he examined my knee (he was in no means gentile, infact he fucking hurt me). I put my leg up onto another chair and he told me to keep it there. He came back a couple of minutes after examining me, grabed the back of my while chair and attempted to drag me into a bigger cubical for another examination. However he wasn't looking as I still had my leg up on the chair, as my foot droped off the chair again I felt a lot of pain. I was starting to have concerns over just how profesinal this guy was.

I was taken to a bigger cubical which had a hospital bed inside it. I figured this next examination was going to take a lot longer so I asked if I could go to the toilet before we started. He got someone to drag my wheel chair to the disabled toilet. When I was dragged back I was told that the doctor who was treating me had gone on a break. No sweat, I thought. Everyone has to take a break at work. The doctor returded 20 minutes later with a nurse. I hobled onto the hospital bed and a masive can of pain killing gas was draged in. They told me to enhale deeply from it (but they didn't tell me why) be obiedient I closed my eyes (because I was shit scared at this point) and started to enhale. After a few massive draws on this drug I was told to stop. The nurse said "The knee isn't dislocated". "I know" I said, "I told you guys that it went back into place as I fell" (I couldn't belive it, the doctor had only examined my knee 20 minutes ago and he already told me it was in place.) The nurse left and the doctor told me to get an ice pack and some pain killers, then he asked me to leave. "oh, will this ever happen again" I said. "I don't think so" he said, "It dosn't uasally happen in males your age, you must of been unlucky".

Now, I could hardly walk. I couldn't bend my leg or put much weight on it. Yet I've been told to leave the hospital and go home...

  • I was given no perscription for pain killers
  • No X-ray
  • I was given no reason why my knee would just jump out of
  • it's socket
  • No crutchs
  • I wasn't told how long I should stay off work for
  • They didn't offer to wheel me outside
  • I was offered no taxi
  • I was given nothing but shit, all I was told to do was get an Ice pack and some pain killers. I would of been better off just going straight home after it happed.

I dislocated my knee, I can't walk, and the british hospital service has done next to sweet fuck all about it.

To my amazment I actualy found it okay to walk out of the hospital, and didn't care less that I was walking at the side of a major road. I later realised that the gas I'd taken 2 minutes before being told to leave had tempereraly made it comfortable for me to drag my near broken leg around and I was walking up a major road trying to find somewhere that I recognised. If I'd of fallen or triped or something I'd of been killed instantly. I pulled myself together and found a bench outside the hospital. I called my dad on my mobile, he left work early, picked me up and drove me home.
After several hours of sleep my riht knee has swollen t the size of a coconut and now I can't bend it at all. I'm in a tone of pain.

I'd just like it thank the people I work with for helping me out when it happened and calling the abulance, the ambulance men who were more helpful than the stupid fucking doctor I had, and most of all RedFeathers who while I was waiting for my dad to pick me up text messaged me for about an hour and kept me company. I'm so fucked off that I won't be able to meet her right away, but when I do I owe her a big thank you and I need to make up for spoiling her plans last night. wink

PS, Happy Birthday Red... I've made U a cake...

I may be phiscally injured, but mentally I'm still the same! evillol

Yeah, I was wondering what happened to you yesterday.
Ouch! I always have dreams that that exact thing happens to my knee.

But, nice drama-queen rant. lol

I can relate to the hospital tribulations though. pat Never giving any damn painkillers and whatnot! mad

And that was very cool of Red to keep you company through all of that.

And here, just for you, (you know I never like to use the hugging emoticon) a hug

Cheers man. I don't thin I've got much of a choice, unless I have help all I can do is sit or lye down. I think them 18 hour buffy / angel box sets are finally going to become useful.

Yeah, you should be able to get them at a pharmacy or a sports store. The pharmacy should have a decent selection.

I'm bummed about my date with Red. But we've said how we will meet up ASAP. She has a really big heart under her 'naughty' exterior.

Fucking hell man, that is really awful. Hope the knee heals up okay...

Mainstream medicine is such a barbaric profession, and it barely deserves to be considered a science (same goes for dentistry IMO). I've got a few friends who are medical doctors and they agree... I remember one time I was having serious difficulties breathing and I collapsed and was brought to hospital by ambulance. Even THAT required me to wait 4 hours in the casualty department surrounded by drunks and druggies, only to have some totally underqualified junior doctor give me an Xray, ECG, a few half-hearted questions, before saying he didn't know. He sent me home with pain killers. I still get the breathing problems and back pain once every few years, and it is quite dangerous, but in the few times I've been hospitalised for it, nobody had any clue what to do.

Worse still, that time when I was sitting in casualty... I was chatting to a French guy who had been waiting NINE hours. He was holding a piece of his thumb that he had accidentally chopped off (he's a chef). I chatted with him for a few hours, and gave him some pointless optimism about him being able to play guitar again. In the end, after 12 hours of waiting, he went home untreated. I tried hard to make him stay but after half a day sitting around being ignored, he'd had enough. I presume his thumb is gone to this day. What a fucking joke.

That was in Ireland, and our health service is a fair bit better than the UK. I can only imagine what would happen to me if I got seriously ill here... if anything ever happens to my wife and she needs surgery, I'm flying her back to Tokyo.

Actually since I moved to the UK, I've been to my GP three times, and all three times he completely misdiagnosed the problem or else failed to diagnose anything at all. One time I was so irritated at his lack of ability to solve a simple fucking ear infection, I flew back to Ireland to see my doctor there. She sorted it out immediately.

Shit, that's horible. How the hell do these people qualify? We'd all be better off treating ourselves. As for flying your wife to Tokyo, I think that's a very smart idea. I would never subject anyone I care for to this sort of bad treatment unless I had no other choice.

Do you have BUPA or other private health care? Maybe they can arrange an appointment with a specialist regarding your knee...

Basically, Accident & Emergency caters mainly for car accidents and drunken lunatics with broken bottles.

That dosn't surpise me. I always get the feeling they're trying to rush you out at the doctors. As long as they tell you any random words you'll eat it and be on your merry way. Like some sort of bullshit placebo.

No unfortunatly. There is no doubt in my mind that a privert health care company would have me sorted in no time. I'm no expert but to me a dislocated knee isn't heart surgery, they could at leaste give me some answers. I'm sure if I had a half decent doctor at the hospital I went to instead of the one I ended up with I'd be sat here now with crutchs, a brace, some decent pills and some peace of mind. I guess I was just unlucky to get someone so unprefesional.

I can only imagine what would happen to me if I got seriously ill here... if anything ever happens to my wife and she needs surgery, I'm flying her back to Tokyo.

hmmm breathing problems?? do you have asthma?
