Here's an interesting remark on Graffiti taken from the Zenit News Agency...
"there is a need to understand a socio-cultural expression of complex motives, but under no circumstances are we endorsing or excusing the scribblers and vandals who damage monuments, buildings and homes." "Often, man has a need to sign or print something -- an instinctive impulse to leave something of himself, to carve out a territory, fix a date or celebrate something important -- like the carved hearts of lovers on tree trunks. One even finds in some old confessionals in venerated basilicas the signatures and dates of devoted pilgrims of two or three centuries ago ..." The pontifical paper asks: "Could this not be the cry of a lonely soul who, gazing on blocs of cement and the speed of metropolitan life, shouts to an indifferent society 'I am here'?"

I love grafitti art too. But not if it's just tagging, it has to be a mural or something. "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven

Lookin at those names you listed I bet you've seen some legendary artwork.I couldn't find any pics of any buses or trains but if someone else can please post. I always dug it when art has the capability of moving around on it's own. -------------------------------------------------

Are you kidding? What's not to love about graffiti?! I knew a few people who were into it. They were amazing artists. I'd always have them draw something for me too.
I think there should be a museum or art exhibitions for this type of art. Much more talent ,time and effort in this than splattering paint on a wall and a bunch of snooty morons trying to find a non existing meaning behind it! Taggers of the world unite!!

Sure it's art. But that doesn't entitle someone to do it on another person's property without permission. (Yes, I know there is legal graffiti art.) Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position. |

This is true. What do you mean by legal graffiti, like in a art gallery? -------------------------------------------------

This is true. What do you mean by legal graffiti, like in a art gallery? That would be one example. Another would be where a property owner hires someone to paint a graffiti-style mural on their building. Yeah, they do that in Hollywood on Melrose all the time. -------------------------------------------------

I love good graf art. Tagging for tagging's sake is just stupid though. They have pictures of people whp submit photos of their work in either the Source or XXL hip hop magazines. There's not too many good ones in DC though. A few but not many. "I ordered no broth! Away with ye lest my cane find your backside!!"- Ralph Wiggum, Actor.

As someone who works in a museum let me say you are without a doubt 100 percent absolutely...CORRECT!!! It seems that as long as these curators or other "experts" can write some pretentious bullsh*t about some crappy painting, it's "Art" to everyone else. They have no respect for anything like graf art. It's sad and disgusting to have all these rich snooty bastards declare what is to be regarded as art and what isn't. "I ordered no broth! yeah I see those pictures all over the city. I guess you can call it art but I can never figure out what the writing spells out. ........................................................................
