Okay Scary movies expert unites, why aren't movies scary anymore? Vicent price was a mutha plucking genusis, the movie where corny, but they played mind games on ya which was what made them classic. I've started my own Vicent Price collection which includings the fly, the fly II, the fly return, house on haunted hill which is way better then the new version and the diary of a madman. I think what these young cats out here who's trying to make scary movies today, go back and watch the older movies, because it is clear to me they don't know how to make scary movies like they did back in the dayz It seemed like after the 80's scary movies just went down hill, I mean even Wes Craven was wrong for that badly done New Nightmare movie, when I saw that for the first time I was like ... WTF that wasn't scary, it didn't have me tripping like the older movies did and you know I would even say that Hallowen wasn't scary, I don't know why it became such a phennon as it is ... Anyways my point is and yes there is a point, if you like watching scary movies i would recomend anybody to check out the older movies, because horror flicks these dayz are a joke ...

Because every freaking horror movie these days looks like MTV Spring Break. I can't tell if I'm watching American Pie or Halloween 100.
They dwell on sarchasm and dark humor too much instead of dead serious horror and terror. Movies like Evil Dead, Suspiria, and the original Nightmare On Elm Street are swooning with a dark atmosphere, a sense of being trapped, and great gore. Many of them are also missing good sound effects and music. I noticed this after watching The Ring, one of the few recent horror movies to freak me out.

We are getting desensitized to the suspense and gore . . .

I agree with half of what ur saying, yes horror flicks these dayz do focus to much on the dark humor thing, if I wanted to see dark humor I would watch a tom green movie , however... the ring didn't really scare me as much, it was more suspense to me then horror, but that's just me

I remember when I was little and the original "Nightmare on Elm Street" came out. My mom saw the preview and thought, "Hey, this looks like it might be some kind of supernatural thriller" (which is what she loves) and so she took me and my sisters to see it. She had no clue that it would be so gory, and I remember being so scared and having nightmares for months afterward. To this day she still hates it. Tom is right - it's too MTV-ish, with too much gratuitous sex and shit.
Paisley is right, too - the special effects are too high tech. I don't know why I'm not a fan of recent horror films - maybe ask yerselves these questions: 1. Why did (insert movie title here) scare the shit out of me? What moments, feelings, scenes, etc made it so scary? 2. Why didn't (insert movie title here) scare the shit out of me? It's still a lot of fun to deconstruct horror movies, though. We studied New Nightmare in one of my Horror Film classes this year, and it was great. I got an A in the class, too. I mean, like, where is the sun?

desensitization. i love horror flicks but it took a few rides to get over my reaction to the blood and gore. then, i began to notice how cheezy the special effects are and now i just kinda giggle when i see the fake plastic head rolling and bouncing down the stairs after the monster/crazed killer has lopped it off
besides, the world we're living in right now is much scarier than anything you can watch on film

Movies aren't scary anymore because you grow up and realise
that real life is a whole lot more scary than any movie you can come up with. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

If dead people suddenly started to live again and to eat the living ones you wouldn't say that
that real life is a whole lot more scary than any movie you can come up with. * * [This message was edited Mon Jun 9 13:43:19 PDT 2003 by jn2]

the scary stuff left some things to your imagination. after the 80's, movies prided themselves on how gory they could be as if that qualified as scary. well, shit, faces of death is some gory mess but it ain't scurry !
blair witch, exorcist, amityville horrow, halloween...they are some scurry movies! and the shear evil of house of 1000 corpses was scary...not the movie, just rob zombie!

I just find all horror movies today are so predictable.Someone always trips while being chased or when they try 2 escape the door is locked and they can't get out.The phone is always dead.I would like 2 see something different, something that would make me want 2 stay awake 4 a week and not sleep because i would be so frightened.
