Ok, when online w/ Windows XP, these annoying messenger pop ups come. Anyone
know how to get rid of them. It's like Instant Message spam, and it's driving
me crazy

Pop-up Blocker?

I have to tell you that I don't believe that Windows XP has anything to do with pop ads on a Messenger service. Which Messenger are you using?

They're not regular pop ups. They're messenger service spam, or direct ads, being sent to your computer.

You can block them one of two ways, purchase software such as CoffeeCup PopUp Blocker (which also includes a direct ad blocker), or turn off the messenger service in windows.

I had that problem too, the best way to stop it is to go into the ' Run ' command line and type 'services.msc' (without the '') YOu'll be given a list of all the services running in the background, one of them is Messenger. Right click on it, choose properties, and change the startup type to Diabled. I haven't gotten any of those annoying pop ups since.

Write this down now...

go to "START" > "RUN" and then type "services.msc" in the box, click OK.

once services starts up, scroll down the list to "MESSENGER" and
double-click it.
The go to "STARTUP TYPE" and select "DISABLED" and click "APPLY".
Then go to "SERVICE STATUS" and click "STOP", and then click OK.

Close Services down. And Viola!!! No more pop-up spamming.
