Matrix One

I went 2 watch Matrix 1 at the cinema, cuz Matrix Reloaded is a sellout.

The whole Matrix plot has so much depth. Like its compareable 2 reality, in the way the matrix has created a virtual universe. The matrix universe is governed by rules and a code just like the real universe is. But the gifted 1s can bend these rules. No 1 can define real or emotions. Its a thinkin film. The characters names are derived from Bibical stories and neo is the messiah.

What i found interestin is when Morpeus clarifys the irony, dat the machines are usin humans as an energy source, like a battery. He says a human transmits more bio-electricity than a 100kw bulb. This is said 2 be true in theory. EMP is another interestin element, it exists and fulfills the same result as in the film. So its interestin how the Matrix origins from some fact.

A mind operates with electric signals and it would be interestin 2 c if 1 day a computer can merge and interpret these signals.

I love the part where they pick Neo up under the bridge, and they're going to remove the implant through his navel . . .

The blonde girl - Switch - calls Neo "copper-top" as in Duracell battery . . .

Didn't catch that reference the first time around!

biggrin

Neo is also an anagram of one, and the word Christ translates from Hebrew into 'Anointed one'

Trinity The state of bein 3, as in the the holy trinity. The holy ghost?

Morpheus is a John the Baptist figure, anticipatin and clearin the way 4 neo (messiah)

Zion is the Jewish concept of 'a city of God', a holy place.

The relevence of the 1st matrix was said by agent Smith 2 be the perfect world, but people were not satisfied with it. Adam & Eve lived in Eden (paradise) and wann more when they choose the fruit dat God damned them not 2 eat, as it would give them a new-world with evil and good.

Cyphers traitorin can be comparrable 2 Judas, were he gave away neo 4 his own interests and power.

Christianity believes enlightenment and redemption come from the symbolic drinkin of the blood of Christ. Like the 'red' pill.

There is biblical inspirin all parts of the film, also other religions like Buddhism and Judism are there.

All fascinating stuff to put in this week's dissertation, but taking you back to your original statement:

The characters names are derived from Bibical stories

So far we have learned that Neo is linked to the Hebrew for Christ. Fair enough, it's plausible enough, but then we move to the other characters and we discover ... nothing.

Trinity would work, if the word 'Trinity' were even used once in the bible, but it doesn't, so no name link there.

Morpheus is John the Baptist? Right - but no name link as you suggested. (Incidentally, I missed the scene where his head is chopped off).

Apoc? Ah - one of the four horsemen of the Apocalpse? Doesn't quite work, does it?

Rhineheart, Switch, Tank and Choi - possibly Aramaic for Matthew, Mark, Luke and John? Well, I never!

Let's face it, the name connection theory is so weak it collapses under the weight of its own pseudo-intellectualism. Fortunately, however, there's a caveat to the rescue ...
There is biblical inspirin all parts of the film, also other religions like Buddhism and Judism are there.
So it isn't names that connect ... it's just the biblical inspiration, and when Christianity doesn't work, just pick another religion and it will fit, with a push here and a tweak there. I'm sure it could be convincing, but then somewhere out there right now, there's bound to be a Phd being earned on how The Matrix was really inspired by Disney's major animated classics:

Neo = Dumbo (must be, even rhymes)
Morpheus = Sleeping Beauty
Dozer = the yawning dwarf in Snow White

How am I doing?

wink

Sorry, what i meant was 'The characters names are derived from Bibical stories, meanin 'to trace the derivation of'. So the actual names are not gained from primary sources of bibical stories, but have links 8) By the way most religions are the same just interpreted diferently.
'Disney' is an insult 2 a visionary film, more like a game i know 8)
