What is the story behind the whole pork thing and why people of certain religions will not eat it. I was told today that it is because the pig holds the soul of the devil or something.

I hope someone really explains this. I think that the extreme aversion to pork and pork products stems from nothing more than superstition. There is no devil in the pig and it's only unclean to eat if you don't cook it properly.

I know people that flip out when they see me eating anything pork. Since it's the workplace, I don't really ask them about their aversion for fear of opening up a whole politically incorrect can of worms...

Jesus cast demons into swine... the bible says so. Also when a demon is released from a man it is free to roam and possess other men... killing pigs releases demons.

There are two guys at work who will not even TOUCH pork. They won't get near it for any reason. I had asked one of them and all he said was because of his religion. And, so I asked another guy, who did get more of an answer, but I didn't understand it exactly. I mean... I guess I just don't understand the whole thing. Is it fear of eating or touching pork or just a great... I don't know.

Right... I feel the same way... the one guy is Muslim and the other is something else... I can't remember. But, they've tried to get me into their religion... well, the one guy has, by telling me to go to certain websites, etc... and I just said no thank you... so, I sort of don't want to ask him more about it for that reason. I hate this nonsensical villainisation of the innocent pig. I don't want him killed and eaten but that goes equally for all animal life...

The other religion... it is Islamic.
