Star Wars Thread This thread will likely die a quick death but I figured I'd start it anyway and those who want to contribute are more than welcome. Whether you are a long-time Star Wars fanatic or someone who grew up with the prequels or even a brand new fan of the franchise, all are welcome here. Let's try to keep things civil though

Kicking things off, I'll ask a question I've been unable to find an answer to elsewhere. So, I've been looking at watching the animated shows, starting with the critically acclaimed Clone Wars show. However, I read that there's a movie of The Clone Wars which sort of acts like a "pilot" for the show. But unlike the series, the movie got a bit of a kicking from critics and is generally considered to be the worst movie in the whole franchise. My question is, is the movie worth watching or could I skip it and go straight into the show? Would I be missing out on anything important?

Watch it. Are you talking about Attack of the Clones??? I liked it. My pick for worse Star Wars movie is the Phatom Menace. Never seen the animated series because I just don't like the animation.

No, I've seen all the live action movies. I'm talking about The Clone Wars Animated Movie. I've heard it's a bit rubbish but that the series was supposed to be really good. So I'd rather just go straight onto the series if I could but at the same time, I don't want to miss out on anything important.

The movie may suck a little, but the series will then be more wonderful, especially the last few seasons. There may or may not be something coming!

The movie : Mind you, I seen this years ago when it came out. So my recollection may be a bit off. It has the introduction of Asoka, probably others characters too. I dont remember it being good. It's a short movie so I dont think I can hurt to watch it. The series : I wouldn't be surprised if I missed some episodes. I missed the last few seasons. (They came out years after the series was canceled) But in short there were some really good episodes, stories. And some that were ok. Seeing you are intrested in watching I think you would enjoy the show. The only reason I never finished is can't remember exactly where I left off I will take my place, In the great below

The Mandalorian : Season 3 I'm enjoying it, though it's not perfect The star studded cameos. Jack black, Lizzo. Anyone can be in Star Wars now It's a bit odd how the series jumps characters and story lines. I know they are intertwining. Grogu is still cute. A bit stiff at times. When is he going to say his first word. I read there is a new Ahsoka trailer out. I've yet to watch. Read it will be 8 episodes. It should be interesting I also heard they have 3 new movies in the works I will take my place, In the great below

I decided to just watch the movie and get it over with. It actually wasn't too bad. I kind of enjoyed it . I was afraid in case it put me off watching the series but if anything, it just made me more excited to for it.

Part of the reason I wanted to watch The Clone Wars and Rebels is because I know those shows play a big part in Ashoka and one of the upcoming movies. I hate watching something and knowing that I'm missing out on certain references because I'm not familiar with character histories and that kind of thing.

I like the concept of it all but most of the movies aren't really that super spectacular except The Empire Stikes Back, which is a total masterpiece.

The "sequel trilogy" was just rushed, I think. It kind of reminds me of that Jeff Goldblum line from Jurassic Park. They were so focused on whether they could that they never stopped to think whether they should. I don't hate any of the movies, for what it's worth. Some are definitely better than others though. And it hasn't been a total loss since Disney took over. The Mandalorian is a fantastic show. Rogue One and Andor are probably my favourite Star Wars things ever. I loved the Kenobi show too. And Ashoka looks like it's going to be really good if that trailer is anything to go by.

Well even the bad ones I don't "hate", they're just either boring or cheesy and not great in the grand scheme of Star Wars, but they're definitely all interesting/creative on some level. [Edited 4/10/23 4:29am] [Edited 4/10/23 4:29am]

Tbh, ther've only been two really great Star Wars films, The Empire Strikes back and A New Hope. The series jumped the shark with Return of the Care Bears. And as flawed as the prequels were, they were masterpieces compared to the slop that followed. Disney did to Star Wars what ventually did to the MCU.

My cousin calls it Star Wars Episode 6: The Teddy Bears Picnic lol. I don't know though, I liked it. Did you really not like Rogue One or the Andor series? I thought that both of those were exactly the kind of thing we should be seeing more of. The mainline "Skywalker Saga" are enjoyable action romps but there's definitely room for more serious, mature (by Star Wars standards) storytelling. And I think both Rogue One and Andor did that really well. Disney's take on Star Wars hasn't been the most consistent, I'll admit. The "sequel trilogy" has been extremely divisive and Solo seems to have been almost universally panned (it's the one movie I haven't actually seen yet) but for every perceived failure there's been something good to balance it out. Rogue One, Andor, The Mandalorian, Kenobi. Like I said, that Ashoka show looks promising too. Plus, I'd argue that Darth Vader has never been portrayed in a more frightening manner. His appearances in Rogue One, Kenobi and even the Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order videogame have shown him to be an unstoppable force to be reckoned with. He's almost like a supernatural monster from a horror movie. There's definitely been some missteps along the way but I don't think it's all been as bad as a lot of people pretend.

[Edited 4/10/23 4:29am] [Edited 4/10/23 4:29am] One of the new movies that got announced was a movie that will act as the conclusion to their "Mando-verse". So essentially it's like an Avengers style team up of Ashoka, Boba Fett, the Mandalorian and characters from The Rebels animated series all teaming up against Thrawn and will show the beginning of the First Order and lead directly into Episode 7. I've never seen Thrawn but I understand him to be a hugely popular character so it should be a movie worth watching. I'd say it might be worth watching those shows to prepare for it. In fact, it's part of the reason for my own interest in The Clone Wars and Rebels.

I was going to mention you may want to watch Rebels, but you already ahead of the game I will take my place, In the great below

I liked Rogue One a lot...it felt more 'Star Wars' than the sequels. Vader was never more badass and menacing.
I was so ticked off after 'The Last Jedi' that I said no more Star Wars, just like I did with Marvel:Phase Bore. Haven't seen Wakanda Forever and I don't plan too.

Have you seen anything made after The Last Jedi? I didn't mind the sequel trilogy. They do feel very disjointed though. Both from each other and from the rest of the series. I've only seen them one time each though so I can't say I have a great memory of them. But from what I do remember, I thought they were alright. Having said that, I do think Disney have been making a conscious effort to improve their output so they seem to have learned their lesson. Pretty much all of the shows so far have been great. The one exception being Boba Fett but even that has its moments of greatness. And their upcoming slate looks very promising. You shouldn't allow one (or three) bad experiences put you off. If you watch one thing and nothing else, I highly recommend Andor. Much more mature than what we're probably used to in Star Wars with some genuinely fantastic performances.

Jon Favreau did the franchise justice. The rest is kinda "Meh Wars" "Whatever skin we're in
we all need 2 b friends" | |

That most recent episode of The Mandalorian . Can't wait for next week's finale. Also, as someone who had no prior knowledge of Bo Katan, I would be fully onboard with them making her the lead character in this show for future seasons. As much as I like Din Djarin, I just feel like Bo Katan is a much stronger character in virtually every way.

I wish it would come out on DVD/BLU Ray already I don't see that ever happening to be honest. It's a major selling point for Disney Plus. Maybe once the series has finished and they're promoting this upcoming crossover movie with Boba Fett, Ahsoka, Rebels etc, they'll release some kind of "Mando-verse" box set? But I'd probably doubt it. Disney Plus seems like the priority.

I've only seen the scene from Rouge One at the end where Vader's going apeshit with the saber in the tunnel. It's probably a great movie based on that alone.
