FIFA World Cup 2022

The biggest sporting event in the world kicks off today and even though it's being held in a backwards nation full of scumbags, bigots and zealots I, like many others, will be watching and keeping my fingers crossed that England don't win (relax, that's a joke. Kind of...). Ireland were too shit to qualify (again) so I'll be cheering on Australia, which I consider my true home anyway. Unfortunately, we're also considered too shit to actually win the competition so if and when we're knocked out, my allegiance will shift to Argentina. For two reasons. First, Messi deserves a World Cup trophy in his cabinet. And second, Messi winning the World Cup would really piss Ronaldo off and that arrogant little fucker could do with being taken down a peg or two.

So who's going to be watching this year? And who do you think will win it all?

All cheering for your favorite counties aside, any football club captain wearing a rainbow armband to a match will be immediately awarded a yellow card.

Methinks this tournament will end before the semi-finals...

confused

I know, it's ridiculous. I wonder what the stance is on wearing rainbow laces or boots though?

Have you seen Roy Keane's take on the armband situation? He basically said that the players should have just worn it anyway and if FIFA carried through with their threats of punishment then it would only be playing into the players hands because FIFA would be only bringing more media attention to the situation.

Nice win today for the Socceroos. I honestly expected us to lose or maybe draw but we played well and ultimately deserved the win. Next up, Denmark on Wednesday.

What an advertisement for real football that World Cup was. It has to be said that Qatar should not have been hosting this event and FIFA should be absolutely embarrassed to be associated with such a backwards, shit hole of a country. But in terms of pure spectacle, this World Cup was a great success, even if it was a total failure off the pitch.

Some extremely surprising results along the way, the Aussie team doing their country proud, the English losing (again!), Morocco beating all the odds and making it through to the semi finals, Mbappe securing his place as the heir to Ronaldo's throne (the Brazilian Ronaldo, not Cristiano) and Messi finally winning the World Cup and joining Maradona on the #1 spot on the podium of greatest players of all time.

But spare a thought for Cristiano Ronaldo. I genuinely feel sorry for him. He's nowhere near the player he was and he hasn't been for a very long time now. During his run at Juventus he was a shadow of who he used to be and his time at Man United was just sad. And the saddest part of all is that he just seems like he's unable to accept that he's just not that good anymore. Unfortunately, I think it's time for him to retire.

The final itself was the best game of football I've ever seen. Messi and Mbappe going head to head was a joy to behold. I don't think we'll ever get another moment like that in sport. Any sport. The man who has been the best player for the last 15 years going up against the man who is primed to be the best player for the next 15 years. It wasn't quite a passing of the torch because Messi looks like he'll be keeping that torch for a few more years yet but you can see that Mbappe is "the next big thing" in football.

But for now, Messi is still the best current player and in my opinion, is now equal to Maradona in the all time list.

Penalty kicks are a fucking joke now!

When i played, i was disciplined to never deviate from my first initial movement, or else the attempt didn't qualify.

Now these fuckers stutter-step, pause and twist to their likings!

AAAAND, the keeper wasn't allowed to leave the ground until the ball was struck!

All these shootout deciders were bullshit!!!

OK.

Rant over lol

There were some strange penalty techniques on display. But both sides in a penalty shootout are allowed to do it so at least it doesn't give either team an advantage. Plus, it's always funny to see a player do one if those stuttering runs and then completely balloon it over the bar. So these new penalty techniques are not without their entertainment value lol
