Emancipation

Has anyone watched Emancipation on AppleTV+, with Will Smith? I'm not sure I wanna watch it. Thoughts?

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

It doesn't look like my kind of movie to be honest. But even aside from that, I don't think I could watch another movie with Will Smith in it for a long time. I don't dislike him or anything but I just think it would be hard for me to watch him in anything without thinking about the Chris Rock incident. I think I'd find it distracting.

If you do watch it, let us know what you think.

That's actually my thought process in part. I've lost a lot of respect for him. And honestly, his demeanor in interviews is just annoying. He does this kinda fake stammering thing that is just ridiculous. "So...ummm. you know.... huh... I... I... I... you know.... Jada and I...." Just fucking say it!

I do think the Rock incident overshadows it greatly. Maybe as long as I don't watch interviews I'll be okay. haha

I did swear off Tom Cruise after he got on his Scientology kick w/ Matt Lauer, and then bullied Brooke Shields about her postpartum depression. Then that hideously cringy Scientology video. It showed just how far down the rabbit hole he's been. I thought - you know what, I don't need another Tom Cruise movie in my life. And from that point, I've not watched one. The last Cruise movie I ever watched was The War of the Worlds. Before that, Minority Report. I didn't even watch Collateral.

With Smith, I guess Aladdin or Suicide Squad was the last I watched from him. Movies like Emancipation are (purposely) tough to watch. 12 Years A Slave felt more brutal than Roots. Of course slavery is brutal. But - I suppose I'll just wait it out for now.

To this day, I've yet to watch a Will Simp film. Not breaking my streak now.

I'll watch it when it becomes available to me. Not making it a mission. I don’t have deep personal feelings about Will Smith and co. I don't care how they chose to run their family. I don't care about the slap maybe because I know the why's leading up to it. Unfortunately wrong venue, wrong method, but no skin off my nose, his cross to bear. He can be the biggest prick in the world behind the scenes and I don't care because he's never said a thing publicly that offended my sensibilities. I'm just watching movies to be entertained. I do wish they'd turn the dimmer down on sharing their personal life. I prefer that in my celebs. I don't watch RTT because I normally don't watch that kind of stuff to begin with, zero to do with Jada. I have found both their work entertaining at times, other times, not so much. Like any other celeb.
Time keeps on slipping into the future...

This moment is all there is...

Funnily enough, I don't really mind Tom Cruise's descent into madness. His religious beliefs are none of my business and I've never seen any of the videos of him being crazy. I've heard about them and I've seen parodies of the Oprah thing but I've never personally seen them. As these things were happening, I didn't care enough about Tom Cruise one way or another to seek them out. And nowadays, I like the Mission Impossible movies so much that I don't want to see those videos in case it puts me off his movies. Which, admittedly, feels kind of like burying my head in the sand.

I think the difference between Tom Cruise and Will Smith is that in interviews, Cruise always comes across as a nice guy. The Irish talkshow host Graham Norton always talks about how Tom Cruise is one of his favourite guests. How he remembers the names of all the crew and will chat with them for hours before they go on air. Will Smith doesn't come across as a nice person in interviews to me. He always seems very arrogant or something. And now you've mentioned the stammer thing he does, I'll never not notice that again! lol

I can't stand him, his hoodrat "wife" and those weird-ass kids. I'd like to put the whole friggin' family (along with Tom Cruise) in a spaceship and head it toward the sun.

I don't think I've ever seen his wife in anything other than that "young Batman" thing she was in. So I can't really comment on her or, for that matter, their kids. I've seen his son in interviews and he comes across as a bit strange but I'm not sure if that's really him or an act. Will Smith himself though seems very fake. I'm not sure if I'd send them into the sun but I definitely don't need to see them on my television ever again. Unless there's another Men In Black movie. I'd probably watch that.

I always despised his corny ass, but that slap thing really ticked me off. The first black-produced Oscars and he pulls some stupid ghetto ish. He let that hoodrat put her simp battery in him and acted all rough against a smaller man. Of course you had some black folks co-signing that foolishness ("he protected his "wife/queen"). Please....when has that viper ever been a wife? She emasculated him every chance she got. I would have told the Fresh Simp, "where's all the smoke for August?"
