Looks like Pittsburgh's going the free agent route. Makes sense....it's hard as hell trying to get one in the draft.

Will see. Don't always agree with NFL insider. Steelers really don't want to announce their future plans to everyone

Doesn't really make sense at all. What good Veteran QB is out there??? There are currently a lot of teams that have drafted some good QB's, Mahomes, Jackson, Mac Jones, Murray to name a few. If Steelers don't like the QB's in the draft they probably will stick with Rudolph (since he knows the system) until one does in a future draft. Steelers may do some dealings to move up in a draft. With the exception of Tommy Maddox I can't think of any former veteran QB to be the starter for Steelers in the last 50 years or so. Yeah sure they picked up Vick and Leftwich but they were just the backups for Rothlisberger. I think Mike Tomczak was a veteren QB who took over for a little while in Pittsburgh, but boy did he suck and is another reason why they should just draft a QB instead. For the Steelers it makes more sense to draft QB since they just drafted a RB ,TE, center in the last draft. Steelers O-line is young and seems to be getting better, plus the WR's are all young too. Bungals would get crushed with a healthy Steelers team

Steeler fans better hope it's not a 21 year wait to land a franchise QB, like it was between Terry & Big Ben.

Are you judging a franchise QB with superbowl wins only???
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
No, but it's a big part. You expect them to lead their team to (and hopefully) win the big one, right?

It's all speculation as far as I'm concerned but the issue is their are no can't miss qb prospects coming out the draft this year. I'm sure there will be a few that move up the draft board after all the senior bowl games. I don't like the idea of picking up a veteran to start especially someone like Garappolo. I would consider Russ if he wanted out of Seattle but no way in hell would I want or will the Steelers give up the farm for him the way the Rams did for Stafford. Don't laugh at my funk

It is considered a weak QB class, which is why Pittsburgh should (at least) inquire about Wilson. He turns 33 next week, so he'd give you several more years of solid QB play (shit, I'll take Wilson right now over the clown we have on the Giants).
Deshaun Watson would definitely cost an arm and a leg, but he has that legal shit to deal with. And I think Aaron Rodgers is staying in Green Bay.

Steelers are not known for getting a big name QB to be a starter. That's why I think they might just stick with Rudolph until a better draft class for QB's come up. Steelers got their franchise QB's by drafting a QB in the first round with Bradshaw in 1970 and Ben in 2004. As you mentioned Steelers took 21 years to get their franchise QB, well from 1981 until they drafted Ben the Steelers never drafted a QB in the first round. They were criticize for not picking Marino in the 84 draft pick (I think it was 84). They did draft Malone in the first round in 1980 and was hoping to be their franchise QB when Bradshaw retired in 1983, and that didn't happened. Though Steelers were winning a lot during the 90's, so if you are winning you stick with your QB. O'Donnell was a solid QB who did lead the Steelers to the Super Bowl. Don't care about that certain thing that happened which every monday morning QB always bring's up about O'Donnell. I wanted O'Donnell to stay with the Steelers and not go to the Jets. O'Donnell could have lead the Steelers back to the super bowl. Then Steelers got K. Stewart, he was fun and exciting to watch. He won more than he loss with the Steelers but cracked under the pressure and was let go. Tommy Maddox was brought in and did great for the Steelers, even the comeback player of the year. Maddox got injured against the Ravens and Ben was brought in, and the rest is history. Steelers are not the Jets or the Browns who always pick a QB in the first round. But for the Steelers it's time to look at the draft again for their next QB (AND IF NOT THIS YEAR THAN AN UPCOMING DRAFT).Don't see any of those guys coming to Pittsburgh. Watson to much drama and Rodgers is almost 40 and is a diva, plus they would cost a lot. Watson will go to the Dolphins and Wilson and Rodgers will most likely stay with their teams.

I just feel the Steelers should have been planning for this already, who cares if Ben gets upset (Giants made the same mistake holding on to Eli for too long). Green Bay didn't give a damn about Favre's feelings when they lucked into Rodgers.

My Week 12 picks Lions over the Bears (yes Lions get their first win) Cowboys over the Raiders Bills over the Saints Buccaneers over the Colts Texans over the Jets Eagles over the Giants Panthers over the Dolphins Patriots over the Titans Steelers over the Bengals Falcons over the Jaguars Chargers over the Broncos Rams over the Packers Vikings over the 49er's Ravens over the Browns Washington over the Seahawks Batman over the Chiefs

I've been saying that for years. They should have gotten rid of Landry Jones way sooner than they did.

Steelers are a great organization with great fans. During the 70s when the Giants were a fucking mess, Pittsburgh was my second favorite team (mainly because they beat the hated division rival Cowboys twice in the Super Bowl). It would suck if they had to go through another long stretch without a franchise QB. Dolphins are still searching for the next Marino. Shit, Chicago's last great QB was Sid Luckman.

The Steelers were still winning during those times and still went to the Superbowl. I know the Steelers will start focusing on the run game thanks to having Harris. Like they say the best friend of a QB is having a great run game. Who ever they draft will be in a great position with a run game, young great WR's and TE, young O-line that which is getting better and a great defense. Honeslty the biggest problem with the Steelers is all the injuries they are having on defense.

And that is why they need to Draft a QB in the first round in the next couple of drafts. Getting an older veteran is just a temporary fix and people will still be saying the Steelers need a future QB. I do think Phil Jurkovec would be a nice pick up. He kinda seems like a Rothlisberger type.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
So, is Phil Jurkovec a First-Round Pick?As long as Jurkovec doesn’t regress this year and plays at a similar level as last year, he should be gone by Round 2. What he struggles with can easily be fixed by more experience and better coaching at the next level. The pro comparison that fits for Jurkovec is Ben Roethlisberger, and it is hard not to see why. There are a few quarterback-needy teams that could use a player of Jurkovec’s caliber. The most obvious choice would be the Pittsburgh Steelers to fill the void left once Roethlisberger decides to retire. The Tennessee Titans could be another intriguing landing spot because he excels at what they do best: run and play-action. Regardless of where he goes, it will likely be in the first round, and no one should be surprised.
