Breaking: "The Wire," "Lovecraft County" Actor Michael K. Williams has died at age 54. Emmy-nominated actor Michael K. Williams, best known for his role on the Baltimore-based HBO series "The Wire," has died, a New York City Police spokesperson confirmed on Monday. He was 54. Police said they responded to Williams' Brooklyn apartment at 2 p.m. on Monday, where they found the actor deceased. Officials say an investigation is ongoing. Williams is currently nominated for an Emmy for his performance as Montrose Freeman in HBO’s “Lovecraft County.”

I saw him last in Lovecraft Country his performance was stellar. I've always seen him bring his top performance. Time keeps on slipping into the future...

Michael(whom I had the pleasure of attending an ULTRA private SAG conversation Q&A with) was the BEST one I ever attended with his shockingly honest commentary.His death devastated me I will forever remember his courage.

Williams worked for Pfizer pharmaceuticals as a temp. However, inspired by Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814, he left school and quit his job, against the wishes of his family, to pursue a career as a dancer. During a year in which he was intermittently homeless, Williams visited record labels and dance studios looking for work. He got a job as a background dancer with singer Kym Sims, which led to more work appearing as a dancer in music videos and on tours with artists such as George Michael and Madonna, as well as some modeling work. He also choreographed Crystal Waters' 1994 single "100% Pure Love". | |
