Nobody has ever booed any movie I've seen in the cinema. I guess Irish audiences are a little more reserved than American audiences. The only time anything like that happened was during Superman Returns and it wasn't really the movie that was booed. About halfway through the movie the projector broke down and there was a 15 minute delay in getting the movie restarted. And it wasn't really "boos". I'd say it was more like "threats".

I live the USA. I've never heard anyone boo at a movie or at the end because it was bad. And lord knows I've seen plenty of bad ones.

Now the opposite.
Independence Day (1996) was the first movie i saw where the audience erupted and cheered at the end. It was a wow moment.

Second time was in 1997? Star Wars : Special Edition

It was "Terminator 2" opening day. Sold out theater. Were all sitting and waiting for the movie to start. There was a CD playing over the speakers. It was a rock song with a wailing guitar into. Well there was a power outage, flickering and dim lights. And the CD would restart with the wailing guitar. And it happened what felt like a dozen times. People started to complain (not boo). It was pretty annoying and I mean the music lol
They canceled that screening and gave refunds or passes.

Well if they played Halloween 5 at the United Nations it probably would have been booed there as well. Heck Russia might of nuke the USA for making such a horrible movie. But hey for all the decades of me going to movies it only happened once (and yes it desereved it). For the record I'm only one "booed" movie ahead of you.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and Avengers Endgame are the only movies I can think of where the audience applauded afterwards.

Cheered, many times. But never been to one where people boo'd. The most eerie though was Infinity War, being in a crowded room with absolute dead silence, no one moved a muscle, I don't think for those few seconds you could hear anyone breath, it was awesome.

For me when the audience "booed" it really wasn't a bad thing. There was no sense of a riot was going to break out, it's just what everyone was thinking. And when the guy yelled "I want my money back" most people laughed. Even if no one booed you could tell on the expression on everyones face that Halloween 5 was just a very bad movie.

Never heard a "boo" but maybe it's because if a movie sucks, I leave.

Never saw an audience boo a movie....but I remember seeing one movie and the sneak preview/coming attractions showed the "Cool As Ice" trailer. People were laughing, cursing at the screen and booing so loud, you would have thought that Vanilla Ice had walked in the theater.

Is there anything more pointless than booing in a cinema? What, the director and the studio are going to hear that are they?

Here in the UK I think we're more reserved (or not as dumb!). I've only been to one showing where there was any sort of reaction of appreciation / dissent, and that was clapping at the end of Avengers: Endgame ... but then it was a midnight premiere showing packed out with comic fans, so biggrin

Several scenes of the latter Fast&Furious movies: laughter more than booing.

Really? Once Upon a Time in Hollywood? Tarantino's good, just, out of all his movies... Did you get the vibe it was more because the Mansonmurders were thwarted?

No booing but worse... everyone (myself included) walked out of MacGruber within 10 minutes. I stayed just long enough to finish my popcorn. lol It's got to be one of the worst movies ever released to theaters.

That's kinda funny because the only only movie that there was booing at the end by the audience for me was Halloween part 5. The only movie I ever walked out of was Rob Zombie's horrible reboot of Halloween barf

I honestly don't know. ... Hollywood is one of my favourite Tarantino movies but I've seen better movies in the cinema where the audience didn't applaud. If I had to guess why they chose to applaud it, I'd say it was the sheer shock of not just the Manson family being thwarted, but also the violent way in which they were thwarted. It's hard not to feel good about it, I have to admit.

I have but for the life of me I can't remember what it was called. Sandra Bullock and (I think) Ryan Reynolds was in it. I went with my sister but after about 20 minutes we just looked at each other and said "fuck this" and we left.
