Hideous. Most KISS songs are basic as fuck. A couple are catchy with the chorus, but they're pretty bland overall. It's no wonder they went so big on theatrics. They don't have the musical muscle to back themselves up.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

So I'm guessing you don't want to Rock & Roll all night and party every day?????

I do like Paul Stanley, but Kiss as a group - no thanks. I agree with TrivialPursuit that their music was basic and not all that good. And, Gene Simmons is one of the most egotistical assholes out there.

And he embraces that. I think his solo record was called Asshole. He's a terrible singer. Paul used to be able to sing but his voice is garbage now from that circus barker voice he used while talking in concert.

Shamefully, I admit that I went thru a KISS phase about ten years ago. I was buying those KISSology DVD sets. I suppose I was just fascinated with the hubbub around it all. However, I eventually sold them on eBay, and got a good clip for them.

I don't think even Paul is a great songwriter. Good, maybe. But he's never written anything on his own, as a soloist, that's memorable. And none of them are writing music or putting anything out. Paul's tried the most, aside from projects Ace had.

One bigger note: Every thing that KISS said they would never do or thought was cheap, they did. Cut their hair, did glam rock, did operatic stuff, did alt rock, did cover songs, etc etc. Every single thing they shit on, they did it. It makes them hypocrites, at least.

Gene & Shannon recently put that mansion on the market for $20M. I think he bought it for $3M years and years ago. The inside pics are beautiful without all the KISS garbage littering the house.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I would buy a bottle of that gin, tbh. Probably just regular gin with the Kiss logo.

Gene is a known rabid abstemious.

I get this average band broke ground in merchandising but how much money do you need?

The Kiss coffin was one of many interesting choices but 40 years later it's hard to get my head around.

And didn't Gene and Paul always brag about how they never had a drink in their lives? At least Gene did. The first time he drank was some champagne at their wedding. Seems... hypocritical.

prince.org is pretty much "anti-KISS". The only person I could have cool KISS discussions with was with my dude (former prince.orger) "blackguitaristz". He was a fan from way back too.

I saw Phantom of the Park when it was originally on TV as well as the Paul Lynde Halloween Special which featured KISS. My older brother was kind of a fan back then which got me interested. Heck, I even had a KISS lunchbox which, looking back, I'm surprised I was able to bring to school without incident being it was a Catholic grade school.

I actually saw KISS in concert when I was 16. They were a fun band, but then I realized what an egotistical asshole Gene Simmons is and gave up on them decades ago. Ace was a decent guitarist and who couldn't like Paul, but Gene ruined the band for me.

I;m surprised my ultra-religious father let my brother plaster his room with KISS posters. lol

I had a junior high friend, Vernon, who I hung with a lot. He loved KISS. I spent the night at his house once, and he had a poster for each of the guys on his walls. I made him take down Gene, Paul, and Ace before I'd sleep in his room. I didn't want them staring at me. He tried to get me to listen to Unmasked, but I wasn't interested.

Part of it was growing up religious, and thinking their name was Kids In Satan's Service, and all that mess. When I had the K-Tel album Soundwaves (where I discovered Prince), "I Was Made For Loving You" was one of the last two songs on side A. I distinctly remember taking my headphone jack and scratching up that and a Pat Benatar track, rendering them unlistenable. lol

Maybe all that pruposeful lack of attention was why they were never ingratiated them into my music library over time. Sorta glad I never bought into the hype all these decades.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

They're horrible musicians and song writers but, along with Elton John and ALice Cooper were my first loves musically as a kid. Something about the larger than life theatrical element of it all just capitvated me and I still dig that shit.

They put on one hell of a show. I've seen them 3 times and they're phenomenal. It sounds weird to say, but they're really not about the music. They're about the brand and the show. They're also a testament to sheer hard work and will power so I kind of admire them.

Ace was the only member with any real talent among the original lineup, although Paul was a pretty good singer and front man. Eric Carr (their second drummer) was a good player.

I took my 8 year old son to them a couple years ago and he fucking loved it. It's just a big pyrotechnic rock and roll circus/carniaval but they give you your money's worth and are never boring. I think they're a lot of fun but I don't take them seriously as musicians all that much.

As funny as it may seem KISS was a kid friendly band. KISS knew that many young kids liked them and when KISS appeared on the kids show Kids are people too Gene told the kids don't copy us regarding all the pyrotech stuff they do at their concerts.
