Rate the Last Movie You Saw - Summer 2021

2LIKkK_0ablfAzi00?type=thumbnail_1600x1200

This was an enjoyable movie with a lot of energy and positivity. It was defintiely worth seeing at a theatre. It didn't quite live up to the hype, as it never really stayed with any serious themes or conflict to make their resolution that meaningful.

This movie was the opposite of In the Heights in that it lingered on potential conflict and never attempted to fully resolve it. It is one of the movies that you appreciate more after it has lingered in your mind for days since seeing it. A unique take on racism, sort of the opposite of the Blind Side.

3.5 stars out of 4.

What an interesting documentary that is scary in terms of what happen to her under the guise of a protective conservator-ship. It also highlights how the insanity of living under the microscope of Paparazzi and how they gaslight her in order to make a buck.

Not as scary as the first two movies but an interesting story.

Currently going through a run of showing my daughter some of my personal favourite movies of all time that she hasn't yet seen. Today was the turn of Jaws. An absolute classic in every way. And in a bizarre twist, it actually always makes me WANT to go to the beach.

The is one of those movies that sticks with you and one of the best I've seen in a long time. My love of music (specifically Jazz in this case) is my bias in how much I enjoyed this but it's got layers and the message is deep/powerful.

I don't want to even give anything away here but I'll just say that a struggling musician gets his big break and then dies. That's where the story really kicks in. The cast includes; Jamie Foxx, Tina Fey, Graham Norton, Donnell Rawlings, Questlove and Angela Bassett.

Animation has really reached another level and the blending of actual film footage with animation makes the movie a piece of art from beginning to end. The overall message is universal and I'm sure I'll watch this on some regular rotation for the rest of my life.

No surprise it's the team that did the movie "Up" which was also next level story-telling. Just watch this, this is an instant classic.

What a nice ritual you have with your daughter in sharing some of the classic movies. I did this a bit during the pandemic with my twins, but at some point lost out to their 14 year old need to stay away from their parents at all costs neutral. I wonder if your daughter now wants to got to the beach with you, or will refuse to go into the water!

"In The Heights": A+---I really, really, really enjoyed this movie! smile I love movies with alot of music and of course, this film (which is based on the Broadway musical) has lots of music. The musical sequences are amazing and alot of fun! There were moments in this movie when I wanted to stand up in the theatre and start dancing too, lol. The soundtrack is excellent and I highly recommend it.I think this movie is very timely. If you look around, the US is so divided right now and there is alot of hate. This movie is about community....neighbors being supportive and friendly to each other......people coming together....it's exactly the type of message America needs right now! I give it an A+.

Review: 'In The Heights' Is Almost Oppressively Joyful

yeah,I like the fact that this movie is positive. It's not violent. There are no embarassing, graphic sex scenes so you can take the kids to see it biggrin There's hardly any cussing. It's a fun, uplifting movie with some positive messages throughout. When it was over,I left the theatre with a big smile on my face.

She's nearly 10 but I reckon I have a few more years before I become an embarrassment to her. But my son is 18 months old and I've got another baby on the way so by the time my daughter stops thinking I'm cool I've got two more children in reserve.

She loved Jaws but she's always been terrified of the sea. I don't suppose Jaws will have changed her opinion on that but still, great movie.

Tonight's movie was Lethal Weapon 2. We had watched the first one at Christmas, as is the tradition, so it was about time we got around to the sequel. Whatever about Mel Gibson's personal life these days, you can't deny that the man has been in some incredible movies. It gets the two thumbs up from my daughter too so all is good.

I'm thinking about maybe Kill Bill for tomorrow. I know it's very violent but I seen worse when I was her age. Besides, Kill Bill is more like a cartoon-type of violence than actual gruesome, Oldboy-esque violence.

Ok, we watched Kill Bill 1 and 2. Back to back. As it's meant to be watched. I thought my daughter would really go for this movie but she kind of zoned out of the non-action scenes. It wasn't until Michael Madsen buries The Bride alive in Vol 2 that my daughter became interested in the story. She liked it, overall, but didn't love it. I fear she may be too used to watching superhero movies to appreciate real action cinema when she sees it.

Tomorrow is one I know she'll like. The all-time classic, Short Circuit.

Short Circuit - 5/5

Absolute fucking classic. Steve Guttenberg and Ally Sheedy star in this masterpiece and I'll tell you this, they need to return for a Short Circuit 3. Because if they do, I'll be first in line.

As an added note, my daughter loved it too.

With Bill Cosby in the news lately I figured it's a good time to watch another classic from my childhood so today was the turn of Ghost Dad. Cosby may well be a sick, twisted, evil fucker but damn it, this movie is still great. I mean it's kind of shit but the nostalgia wins out in the end. Still a very watchable movie and despite being an absolute scumbag, Bill Cosby is very good at acting like a good father, ghost or not. My daughter enjoyed it too and actually recognised Bill Cosby from Meteor Man, which made me very proud because we haven't seen that movie in about 5 years and that's over half her lifetime ago.

But yeah, Ghost Dad gets a solid 3/5 from me.

THE UNHOLY | Sony Pictures Entertainment

The Unholy. I give it a C+, not the best scary movie or the worse but a very forgetable movie. Stars Jeffery Dean Morgan, feels more like an average episode of the X-Files than a movie. One problem is they rely to much on CGI which makes it less scary IMO.

It's a MASSIVE improvement on the theatrical version in that it's actually quite good, though far too long. Definitely the best DCEU movie although technically speaking, it's not even part of the DCEU because WB have already said that there won't be any sequel and that it exists in its own reality. Which is fine by me. I'd love a follow up so we could see how they pay off some of those cliffhangers but WB would likely fuck it up so it's probably for the best if it exists purely in my imagination.

Took a break from the old school movies tonight to watch Black Widow. A very enjoyable movie which despite being a prequel to Infinity War actually still manages to have a big impact on the future of the MCU. What I liked most about it was that it wasn't really a superhero movie. It was more like a Bourne spy thriller until the final action sequence, which was more like something Tom Cruise would do. Very entertaining movie.

I loved that everyone shutted the f*ck up in a strangely f*cked up movie.

Maybe the 2nd will be just as f*cked up.
