Any critically panned movies that you love?

What are some movies that were given really bad reviews by critics that you absolutely love and enjoy?

Some of I love and enjoy are
Spring Breakers
Billy Madison
Texas chainsaw 3D

Ghost Dad
Probably tainted for a lot of people now because Bill Cosby is a scumbag but that doesn't bother me so much. Still a quality movie.

Teen Wolf
Not to be confused with the awful TV series.

Assassins
Criminally underated action movie with Stallone and Banderas. Directed by Richard Donner and written by The Wachowski Bros.

Usually it works the other way for me. The critics just looooooove a movie - and I think it's absolute crap. Most recently, it was The Favourite and Phantom Thread - the latter of which I had to wait forever to see, was totally prepared to love, and was so bitterly disappointed I wanted to feed toadstools to everyone involved with it. disbelief

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Another one would be Superman Returns. It wasn't technically critically panned (it actually got quite good reviews) but the general consensus nowadays is that it was a bad movie. But personally, I'd take Superman Returns over Man Of Steel any day.

Under the Cherry Moon. I'd only ever watched it maybe twice, but just rewatched after finishing the tudahl book... it's fucking brilliant. It hit every mark it was aiming at in me.

Never seen it but think I will check it out since it's an EmmaMcG reccomendation. Speaking of" Ghost" I liked the panned movie Ghost Rider, thought it was good and Nick Cage was believable as Johnny Blaze.

Don't blame me if you hate it razz

Yeah I liked Ghost Rider too. I also really liked that other Nick Cage movie where he plays a guy who breaks out of hell. Drive Angry, I think it's called. I went to see that in 3D. There only myself and my boyfriend there. Well, there was one other person but he walked out halfway through the movie. I enjoyed it though. One of the few movies where I was really impressed by the 3D.

Basic Instinct and Independence Day are both entertaining films, but really aren't that good technically. I enjoy them a lot.

*Thank God It's Friday (1978)----a disco comedy that is mostly remembered for the hit song "Last Dance" by Donna Summer (who also appears in the film).I admit that not all of the humor works, but I love this movie biggrin it's alot of fun.

*Xanadu (1980)----a musical fantasy film with not much of a real plot, but I don't think it's nearly as awful as the critics said.Olivia Newton-John has a delightful screen presence and the soundtrack (by her and ELO) is excellent.

’Who’s That Girl’ (1987)—-I think this is Madonna’s best movie.A fun,silly 80s comedy with a good soundtrack too.Critics trashed it,but I really enjoy it.

I wanted to say Atomic Blonde and At Eternity's Gate because I seem to remember critics not liking them at all but Googling RT now, they both have a decent rating not great but far from rotten. I guess given time for some to actually watch the movies gets one a better score?

I don't usually read/watch critics, but I don't think they were generally fond of movies starring Don Knotts or Jerry Lewis, so I'm going with that. lol I like Apple Dumpling Gang. I also like

Smokey And The Bandit 1 & 3 (not 2 as much. There's a rumor that Part 3 was originally a movie called Smokey Is The Bandit with Jackie Gleason playing all the parts. But the studio later insisted on putting Jerry Reed & the Burt Reynolds cameo in it. Supposedly the original version either still exists or the footage was thrown out.)

Superman III

The Toy (Richard Pryor)

Black Belt Jones

The Wiz

those 3 Gilligan's Island reunion movies

Snow White And The Three Stooges

Elvis Presley movies in the 1960s

Disorderlies (Fat Boys)

Cannonball Run 1 & 2

Battle Creek Brawl (Jackie Chan's 1st attempt to make a movie in Hollywood)

House Party 3

Street Fighter (Van Damme)

Help! (Beatles)

Roman Polanski's Pirates is the first one that comes to mind.
Or Sergio Leone's A Fistful of Dynamite.
Bob Dylan's Masked and Anonymous.
If you take any of this seriously, you're a bigger fool than I am.

**Under the Cherry Moon - Not great by any means, but it def has its good moments.

**a few Adam Sandler movies...I love Happy Gilmore, Big Daddy and Wedding Singer.

----> and now, for the really embarrassing one --->Staying Alive <---the panned sequel to Saturday Night Fever. lol lol lol All I can say is Travolta was steaming hot in it and it made an impression to my 14 year old self when it came out. I just caught it on PlutoTV recently and still was entertained by it. My husband though for sure I was stoned as a kite when I was watching it...but sadly no...just still drooling over Travolta's hot bod! biggrin lol lol drool

Criticss didn't like Help! by the Beatles? Never seen it, need to check it out. I saw A Hard Days Night and liked it. Saw Yellow Submarine, didn't care for it, think you need to be high to watch that movie.

whew, I own Lord of the Rings on blu-ray and even watched it on it's 1978 theatrical release... but I can't say it functions as a movie, especially the last fourth where it seems like they gave up and just put in the rotoscope reference footage in the print instead of animating to it.
