Anthony Bourdain documentary July 16th

Roadrunner: A Film about Anthony Bourdain.

Vanity Fair snippet:

Neville went so far as to listen to every song that Bourdain ever referenced, compiling the tracks into an 18-and-a-half-hour playlist that he distributed to his crew. Bourdain had woven his punk-rock obsession into his travel shows, and Neville, a filmmaker with a specialty in music (in addition to making the Oscar-winning 20 Feet From Stardom, Neville has profiled the Rolling Stones as well as Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble), viewed the playlist as a crucial road map to his subject. Neville titled the film Roadrunner in homage to one song on that list—the 1970s track by one of Bourdain’s favorite bands, the Modern Lovers.

Neville also coaxed unflinching interviews from those who had been close to the Parts Unknown star—including Bourdain’s brother Chris, ex-wife Ottavia Busia-Bourdain, friends and fellow chefs David Chang and Éric Ripert, and various coworkers. In the documentary, members of the chef’s inner circle reflect on Bourdain’s life, sudden success in his mid-40s, and captivating personality. They also share unvarnished observations about Bourdain’s descent into darkness following the breakup of his second marriage—the cruel comment he lobbed at a friend, the hurtful way he treated coworkers in his final months, and the contradictory flaws of what Neville referred to as an “intensely complex character.”

Thanks for the heads up! It felt too soon but after I saw this interview about it, I changed my mind.

I love Anthony. He was such an interesting person and I love the fact that he enjoyed food and people from differnet countries and cultures so much. Looking forward to this.

I haven't seen it yet but plan to this weekend. It's getting great reviews. I loved "Kitchen Confidential" loved, loved, loved this man. Really thought he was living the charmed life. Another heartbreak will not be getting over.
