Took a break from the old school movies tonight to watch Black Widow. A very enjoyable movie which despite being a prequel to Infinity War actually still manages to have a big impact on the future of the MCU. What I liked most about it was that it wasn't really a superhero movie. It was more like a Bourne spy thriller until the final action sequence, which was more like something Tom Cruise would do. Very entertaining movie.

That was the vibe I got from the trailer

Yeah but that's a good thing.

I don't think a typical superhero movie would work for the character. Plus, I'm kind of bored of superhero movies at this point. The best superhero things in recent times have been the TV shows on Disney plus. And none of those are your average superhero-tyoe stories.

I'm more tired of side stories to super hero franchises. I see if this movie is a hit they may do a whole lot of side stories (TV shows), kinda like agents of Shield.

158 million dollars at the box office plus another 60 million from Disney plus premium in its opening weekend. It's already a hit

I don't want to spoil anything for anyone who hasn't seen it but the only spin off TV show set up in this is Hawkeye. Which launches before the end of this year. I wasn't really feeling the Hawkeye show until seeing Black Widow. The post credits scene has changed my mind on that.

The Disney plus shows so far have all been great too and will have direct implications for the future movies. As long as the quality doesn't dip then I'm all for it. I've always believed that superheroes work better as TV shows anyway.

True but don't want too many "side stories", and don't even get me started on how bad Greg "PC" Berlanti ruined the DC shows on the CW. And yes I knew it would make money at the box office

I get where you're coming from but a lot of the side stories have been better than the main movies. Wandavision, Falcon & The Winter Soldier and Loki have all been more interesting than the majority of the movies of the MCU. And Black Widow's post credits scene suggests that Hawkeye will definitely be worth watching.

The Black Widow movie itself is completely unnecessary to the MCU as a whole but taken as a standalone movie, it is a very well made, highly enjoyable spy thriller. And yeah, it's more Mission Impossible than Iron Man but like I said before, I consider that a good thing.

Justice League Snyder Cut 4 out 5 stars. This was a really good movie.

Still need to see that

It's better than Man of Steel or Batman vs Superman. As for the several endings (It's kinda of like LOTR and it's endings.)

99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

Maybe I should be more clear about side stories, I'm ok with The Falcon and Wanda Vision which focus on heroes of the Marvel universe. I guess I don't like side stories to side stories like Agents of shield. They were even going to do a side story to that with Agents most wanted (Something like that) but that got axed. I wouldn't be surprised if the CW made Lois Lane: The College years doh!

They said that all future shows and movies will be more interconnected than ever before so I don't think you need to worry about another Agents of Shield situation. So far, all 3 shows Marvel have done since they took things in-house has lived up to that. Wandavision, Falcon & The Winter Soldier and Loki will have already had big impacts on the wider MCU. When you look at all the TV shows they have coming up as part of Phase 4 you can see where they fit in to the main MCU storyline.

Agents of Shield started out with the best intentions but the longer it ran, the further away it got from the MCU. They've always officially maintained that it was canon, even going so far as to introduce time travel so they could have an excuse not to have to deal with the whole Thanos situation that was happening in the movies. But the show was being written by people who weren't always privy to what was happening in the movies so it kind of suffered by having to rush certain stories so as to not interfere with the movies. Like how large portions of the show had to be rewritten to accommodate the Hydra infiltration of Shield that happened in The Winter Soldier. It made the show seem very disjointed and come across as an afterthought. Which it was.

But now, Marvel have taken everything in-house so that won't happen anymore.

The Last Black Man in San Francisco 4.5/5 with Jonathan Majors (Mont). Very art-house, different.

Jimmie and his best friend Mont try to reclaim the house built by Jimmie's grandfather, launching them on a poignant odyssey that connects them to their past, even as it tests their friendship and sense of belonging in the place they call home.

The Tomorrow War 2.9/5 I really don't get the fine line between horror suspense and sci-fi. Ok maybe not scifi since this is scifi because the monsters are aliens. Still it's classified as drama and comedy too. There are funny moments there are deep emotional moments. But the premise is killing monsters that want to eat you that's pretty horrifying. Anyway a decent popcorn movie, though it's lacking something I can't identify. Maybe too slow in some parts, I dunno. Great concept though straightforward no surprises. Engaging battle scenes. Loved the look of the time jumping. 👍 No glaring plot holes to get annoyed about.

The world is stunned when a group of time travellers arrive from the year 2051 to deliver an urgent message: thirty years in the future, mankind is losing a global war against a deadly alien species.

Interesting review but my main question is: Are you the Moonbeam rater of movies?

Nah, not sure what that means. But. I rate like that from time to time when a movie isn't bad but I'll probably forget I've watched it in about a week.

Old - 2.25 stars out of 4. M.Night Shyamalan's Old has same mix of an ambitious and original premise that is only partially lives up to it's potential.

After reading about this a bit, I'm intrigued. From Ebert's site: "For the most part, however, the film is the kind of audacious and deliriously messed-up work that fans of Stanley, Cage, and cult cinema have been rooting for ever since the existence of the project became known. Both as an effective cinematic translation of Lovecraft’s particular literary skills, and as a freakout of the first order with sights and sounds that will not be easily forgotten, this is one of those films that I suspect is going to grow in significance and popularity in due time."

The poster in that review is better; psychedelic, dude.

They Die by Dawn 2.5/5 it really needed a better production and more action, lots of long pauses and dialogue for such a short film.

Four outlaws with a bounty on each head, set a date for a shootout in Langston, Oklahoma. The last man takes the collective bounty. Violence and mayhem ensue.

The Motorcycle Diaries - Diarios de motocicleta (2004)

The movie is a road trip/coming-of-age story of Che Guevara and his buddy Alberto Granado. It starts on a motorcycle leaving Buenos Aries and they eventually make their way into Peru.

While it is telling an early story of the iconic revolutionary Che Guevara, it's less about politics and more about how his views were shaped by this experience. Poverty on another level, foreign influence in the indigenous peoples and his work at a leper colony (didn't know he was trained as a doctor).

The take away for me on this I need to learn more about this man. Wasn't familiar with any of the actors but they are all really good. Overall a good movie (regardless of it's accuracy) with a great story and amazing shots of South America.

I think you might change your mind after seeing it. Feels more like an Eli Roth movie, and that's not a good thong.
