fast food is ruining people’s health

I think fast food is convenient but it is not healthy.
The convenience part is what gets people sucked in.
And then the doctors have to fix everybody.
Not good.
OK comment if you have an opinion about fast food.

I think fast food is fine as long as you don't eat a steady diet of it.

There's something to be said about moderation, etc. The problem is in the fact that a lot of it is purposely formulated to addictive. All but what, 7 or 8 items on the McDonald's menu has sugar in it. Sugar is addictive.

I believe these fast food companies, while maybe they started with a pure intent 70 or however many years ago, have long since put science into their food, studied taste receptors, and the pleasure centers of the brain and the reward centers, endorphins, etc., and formulated food (whether a recipe for bread, or a special sauce, etc) to be more than just tasty. They're literally rewarding to your whole body when you eat them.

That's creating customers, like big pharma does, just with a better taste. ha

All that said, I do eat fast food on occasion. We like Burger King - the occasional whopper w/ cheese, and some fries. But that's every couple of months or so. About 5 years ago, we decided to stop at a Taco Bell. I used to love Taco Bell, but it had been at least a decade, if not more, since I'd eaten anything from there. I was so disappointed. It just felt like trash in my mouth (and I've had a lot of things in my mouth!).

Wendy's is trash.

KFC isn't real. Popeye's is too far away, although I still wanna try one of those chicken sammiches.

I enjoyed Long John Silver but they can't stay here to save their life. But in upstate New York, one doesn't have to look far for a local fish place. Liked Captain D's just as much, but I don't even know if they're still around.

In general, it is shitty food, but so is a lot of stuff on store shelves. One has to pay attention to what they're eating, regardlesss of where they buy it.

I have cut out pepsi and sweet candies. Doctor told me to cut down on red meat. I don't eat much of it anyways........ so it's steaming chicken and eating tuna as well as buying fish I can steam and cook healthier ways. I have started cutting out cooking oil and using other means.

Any fat on meat I would cut off. Chicken skin too. ick ick.

Increasing fruits and veggies in a diet is healther.

I cut out junk food years ago because of high food prices and the extra weight fell off and didn't come back. I do eat some on rare occasions. Need to put some pounds on, not take them off. razz lol

I used to eat like a pig in my teenage years. It was either eat rubbish or eat nothing. And I like my food too much to eat nothing. Never seemed to put any weight on though so I'm kind of lucky in that regard. I do eat a lot healthier nowadays though. I'm not exactly a health guru, far from it, but I want my kids to eat right so I want to set a good example. My husband, on the other hand, is a total health nut so he helps keep me on the straight and narrow.

Though I do love a sneaky quarter pounder from time to time. razz

Fast food in the USA is far worse than in Europe. Europe doesn't allow all those chemicals and added extra sugars as the USA will allow almost anything. The USA McDonald's fries are soaked in "sugar" water and then froze to be cooked later at the restaurant in England they don't soak them in surgar water.

Forget sugar! Everything in the U.S. is saturated with corn syrup now! Even more unhealthy than white sugar. ill That's another reason why I cut out pre-made food and mostly cook my stuff from scratch. Can't stand corn syrup. I do like what's now called a "Mexican" Coke once in a while--made with old-fashioned cane sugar like when I was a kid! lol

It's not just "Mexican", it's "German", too.

1 liter of CocaCola contains the same amount as 36 sugar cubes.

And, yeah, it tastes WAY better.

Especially with a homemade burger biggrin

There are so many places though. It's hard to find people who say they eat there often yet they are everywhere. The sheer convenience is staggering. As a kid going to the fast food place was a very special treat. It's kind of a staple now. I laugh remembering when I took my daughter to McDonald's for the 1st time she was excited because she saw the commercials. Then she bit into the burger then spit it out and refused to eat the rest. I wish we could go back to that time when those places were basically alien in our life.

depends on what and how much y´all drink and eat....just avoid the fries and the high fructose corn syrup sodas and you´ll be fine....

I like Five Guys every now and then and their the only place where I eat fries cause they so so so tasty, espeshally the cajun fries....so good.

I like Wendys burgers too....there fries aint nuttin to write home about but them burgers is pretty good for a big chain like Wendys........mc donalds kinda bland but l like there triple cheese burgers..so juicy, so good...

tho too much of it kinda risky because it can make your dick limp and make you fat and cause diabetes but then again some swedish scientist did a study after watching Morgan Spearlock´s movie SuperSize Me and came to totally diffrent conclusion.... the participants of the study had higher testosterone levels and more muscle mass after a couple of weeks eating nuttin but 'Mc donalds but they didnt have to supersize every meal and could choose their meals. ....so it can be kinda healthy too if yall know what to eat and eat smart.

It's easy to blame these corporations but we have to make the choice ourselves if we possibly can. I understand that some have no other choice because it's a finanacial situation (cheap, ready-made meals).

There needs to be a clear disclosure on how much of the food is real food and how much is not. Think I've brought this up before but, Taco Bell's (and most others) meat has a high perentage of wood pulp (cellulose). Also don't forget that there's an acceptable amount of feces in every burger - which I read a while ago in the book "Fast Food Nation".

You would think this would be done for public interest/health but you can just add it to the long list...

The list would include dealing with the sugar, diet and the healthcare industries which are all tied together by profits/earnings off of us.

doh! Hate being such a Debbie Downer but some things can't be ignored.

If the gov't out laws the chemicals in our food (like Europe). That would solve a lot of problems.

The government isn't here to run people's food (although they're in everything anyway). The whole point (allegedly) of America is freedom of choice. You don't like it, don't eat it. But to demand a government create some artibtrary rule about fast food is nothing but fascism.

I don’t live in the USA - I live in Australia and over here if citizens make enough noise then it will happen - it happened with smokes, alcohol, guns and as a result we are better off

Unfortunately I have. There's been many more docs since and my choice is definitely "no thank you" unless I have no other choice.

The struggle is with having the energy to actually cook something at the end of the day. So much easier to just reach for something filled with garbage and preservatives. It's not just fake-fast food but any meal that just needs a microwave to eat.

Food prices keep going up here, so I had to ditch fast food and frozen pre-made stuff. What I do (and what my grown son does now) is "batch cook" on the weekend to that you have individual meals ready to go for lunch at work or leftovers to pop in the microwave when you get home from work. You can freeze individual meals, too. Much better than what I used to do... wink
