Fast food is unhealthy if a person eats it everyday and in big portions. Eating fast food two times a week in addition to eating lots of veggies and fruits is important too!

Alcohol can also ruin a person's health!

Its cheaper to buy fast food and its more accessible. They need to change this, impose fast food tax like they did with smokes and alcohol- make healthy eating accessible and cheaper- then see what happens

The government isn't here to run people's food (although they're in everything anyway). The whole point (allegedly) of America is freedom of choice. You don't like it, don't eat it. But to demand a government create some artibtrary rule about fast food is nothing but fascism.

I don’t live in the USA - I live in Australia and over here if citizens make enough noise then it will happen - it happened with smokes, alcohol, guns and as a result we are better off

Same in Canada and I agree with you 100%.

America really has a bad junk food problem. When I visited the thing that shocked me most was how sugary the bread was. It' like there's no escape.

It's the wild wild west mentality. If it works out prosperious for you, great. If you die doing it then too bad for you more resources for someone else. It only becomes an issue when it becomes a problem on other's resources. Probably the biggest reason we don't have universal health care because then all these chronic illnesses become a community problem that demands a solution. Now it's just individuals dealing with their own byproduct. McDonald's no longer super sizes anything anymore and certain products used in fast food have been completely eliminated due to the impact on the medical industry. 🙃

The AMA doesn't give a tinker's damn about what is put into McD's or any other fast food. THAT keeps them in business. Like Chris Rock said, "Money ain't in the cure, it's in the treatment!"

Who aaid anything about the AMA they aren't in charge of what private businesses do anyway. We've got laws against that. They do provide information to the public though. Nutritional fact are now required by law to be publicly available from all major fast food franchises. I mean it's the whole lead a horse to water issue too.

Growing up fast food spots were a 'treat' something people did on occasion, on the weekened when out shopping, out with friends, on the road/trip etc

.

It was never something we ate regularly. McDonalds 'Carols'/Burger King, and a few others
.
Even 'Bowling Alley' food which I think was a bit better, was only done randomly. Also then we were very active physically(people in general) and my parents were big on home cooked meals.
.
A Saturday out shopping
"Hey Dad, can we go to McDonalds??"
Mom "I got your McDonalds right at the house"
3 boys pouting

1 hour later, a home cooked burger

High Fructose Corn Syrup and sodium (salt) is what flavors just about everything that Americans eat (talking in terms of fast food and prepared/processed foods).

Then to top off all that sugar and salt, they pump chemicals into it to make it last longer or to whiten it or to keep it from clumping.

Horrendous.

I understand the AMA cannot dictate anything to private businesses, lest we forget they are a huge-ass lobbying group. But when, if ever, did your doctor ask, "Tell me about your eating habits." What I am saying is that AMA (and pharmaeutical industry) is taking an opportunistic advantage of the entire fast food/portion control issue.

Yes it is the "lead the horse to water issue". It's also a food equity issue. I think fruits and veggies should be subsidized. Ooops, didn't mean to get political about this!

I think one of the biggest issues we have is taking a certain percentage of the contingency and applying it completely across the board. While it is true there is a push from pharmaceuticals to make massively ridiculous profits, to then turn around and say doctors never ask or say, is not true. Doctors do send patients to nutritionists. There are tons of medical programs that'll give people these indepth physicals and tell them their fitness levels and where they should be based on age and other physical considerations and what they need to do to get there. And no not programs reserved only for the well off. There is a massive push to get people to prepare their own foods and read labelling and cut sugar, fat and salt intake, primary fast food staples. The truth, we are a society that doesn't want to be told "no", about anything and will fight tooth and nail to not have anyone tell us what to do, no matter whether that thing is good for us or not. There is a schism on one hand we want the complete freedom to live our true selves but on the other hand we want this big industry to bend over backwards to protect us from every possible harm under the sun. If you one really think about it, it's like a toddler thinks.
