Help identifying an old movie :-s

Hello.

Can anyone tell me what this movie is? I have the vaguest memory of it and just can't place it. This is vague but it used to be on TV a fair bit!

There's a whirlpool or water portal people go through to get to another world/dimension and the film takes place in this other world

At the end they get attacked by a sea monster

Think it's 70s..?

Any suggestion would be brilliant confused crysball

I thought it might have been the Kirk Douglas movie The Final Countdown until you mentioned the sea monster. I can't think of anything it might be but I'll mention it to a friend of mine who's a real movie encyclopedia.

I asked my friend but he didn't know it. He did say that it sounded "like the kind of crap Doug McClure would be in" so I'm guessing kpowers might have nailed it.

KPOWERS AND EMMA THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU

My husband has been driving me insane as we have been trying to identify this film. My memory was vague and it was okay, his memory was it was the greatest film ever being a little boy in 1980.. So now we will rewatch.. I'm not expecting much but you know.

So I just finished... I watched films in 4 parts because kids!

Really enjoyed it, especially the fact that you tbink its ended but it hasn't

Highlight was the flying piranhas

Other highlights include the hairstyle on the Atlantian guide in the white and silver..

I'm not good at film reviews but if I was going to give it 3/5 stars.. Feel like a bit more could have happened in Atlantis and a bit more development on the lives of the people there. Husband continues to give it 5/5 as a childhood classic

I really like older movies that aren't so special effect laden so am still so grateful for your help. I'm just about to watch humanoids of the deep as you suggested so will let you know on that..

There was a remake of Humanoids From The Deep in the 90s. Awful in every way. Although it does feature a young Walt Goggins. Who starred alongside Timothy "Deadwood" Olyphant in Justified. And Timothy Olyphant is probably the only man I'd consider leaving my husband for. So at least it has that going for it.

Also, how have I seen that but never seen the original?

I was not aware of that. Though I think I would still like the 1980 version better.

OK I really like late 70's early 80's sci-fi movies. Here are some more movies suggestions. Doug McClure is not in any of them though I could see him in them. I have a feeling you may have seen most if not all of them. I'm guessing if that's the case it's been many years. With that said I think it's time to check them out again.

Yeah it was pretty awful. I used to seek out really bad movies to try and find some sort of redeeming quality, which is where I came across Humanoids From The Deep. But there was no redeeming quality about it. It's just crap. Still, it's better than Ninja Dragon. If you've never seen Ninja Dragon you owe it to yourself to see it. You won't believe it, even while watching it, that a movie can be so bad. It makes Plan 9 look like The Godfather.

OK just saw the Ninja Dragon trailer on youtube, ok yeah that looks like a good bad movie, if that makes sense. Yeah I used to seek out really bad movies but the Syfy channel came along with all their cheesy CGI movies killed it for me. Hey check out any of the movies above that I mentioned if you haven't seen them yet. I don't consider them bad movies, just classic popcorn movies.

The director of Ninja Dragon is a guy called Godfrey Ho. He's famous for making really terrible movies. But because they're all so cheaply made, they turn a profit so he's allowed to make more. He'll literally just shoot a bunch of unrelated scenes and edit them together to make 3 or 4 movies out of them. The plots make no sense because their just a bunch of random scenes. Actors will appear, literally out of thin air, with no explanation whatsoever. Characters die and then appear in the next scene, notably not dead. Awful, awful movies. And I own loads of them on DVD razz

I love a lot of those cheesy 80s action movies. One Man Force, Blue Jean Cop, Malone etc. It's amazing seeing how many famous, big-name actors star in them.

Warlords of Atlantis

The Land Time Forgot

The People That Time Forgot

At the Earth's Core (1976)

Humanoids From The Deep (1980)

Battle Beyond The Stars

Logan's Run

Saturn 3

The Black Hole

Flash Gordon (1980)

The Omega Man (1971)

The Planet of the Apes movies 1-5 (1968-1975)

The Warriors

Warlords of Atlantis - no

Land That Time Forgot - yes, I really liked that movie as a kid. First time I saw it was in my aunt's house on my birthday. Can't remember which birthday, it was either 6th, 7th or 8th.

People That Time Forgot - no

At the Earth's Core - yes but not all of it.

Humanoids From The Deep (1980) - no. I'll be honest, I didn't even know that the one I seen was a remake until you posted about it in this thread.

Battle Beyond the Stars - never even heard of it.

Logan's Run - yes. I love that movie. And I read the book first.

Saturn 3 - never heard of it

The Black Hole - I had that on VHS but I never watched it. Come to think about it, we had loads of those kind of movies on VHS when I was growing up. My mother got loads of pirate videos off some guy "at the back of the airport", is what she'd tell us.

Flash Gordon - yes, I've seen that loads of times. Although I can't remember if I've ever seen it from start to finish. It used to be on TV a lot and I'd watch it when it was on. I'm sure I've seen it all but possibly never all the way through in one sitting.

The Omega Man - I have it in a double pack with I Am Legend. As you might have guessed, I never watched the I Am Legend side.

Planet of the Apes - I've seen them all. I'd say they vary in quality. The original is my favourite.

The Warriors - Yeah, this is a classic in my house. One of my brother's favourite movies.

First of all glad to hear you seen a lot of the movies that I mentioned. 2nd thing I want you to do, throw away that I am legend DVD into the trash can. Horrible movie. Since you already have The Omega Man DVD I suggest you make some popcorn, pop in the DVD, and enjoy a cool ass movie. Well for the movies you haven't seen I do recommed them, I do think you will like them overall. Since you already seen The Land Time Forgot you might as well see the sequel The People That Time Forgot. Warlords of Atlantis also has the same vibe as those films plus it has Doug McClure in it. Don't be put off by the 1996 version of Humanoids of the deep, the 1980 version is a classic and I think you will enjoy. The director of that movie also made Battle Beyond the Stars film. Saturn 3 is a cool sci-fi popcorn movie and stars Kirk Douglas, Farrah Fawcett and Harvey Kietel. The Black Hole is a very cool underated Disney movie.

Liked the Final Countdown. I know you seen John Carpenters Halloween part 1 & 2. I'm pretty sure you seen his other movies but if you haven't I also suggest them as well. The Fog, The Thing and Escape From New York.

Never seen The Fog but I love The Thing. I watch it at least once a year.

Escape From New York is one of my favourite movies of all time.
