New NBA Season It has been confirmed that the new NBA season will begin on December 22, 2020. There will be 72 games, only 10 games less than usual. Not sure how they will do this with Covid still running rampant, but they did a fantastic job finishing off last season, so I know they will do it again. Can't wait for the next season, it's going to be very exciting. |

I think they should wait a little longer. I'm a huge basketball fan, but Dec 22 strikes me as way too early. I'm not in the mood to watch more NBA at the moment, with the season having only finished a few weeks ago. I know they want to get back to their regular schedule as soon as possible, but I think a better option would have been to shave more games off the regular season. Even before Covid the 82 game regular season seemed excessive. Waaay too many dead games. Not good for the 'quality' of the product. Surely 50 games would be enough to sort the wheat from the chaff for playoff seedings (as has happened previously in other shortened seasons). I know Christmas Day is a big ratings day for the NBA, but an alternative could have been to move the All Star game to Christmas, and use it as an advertisement for an upcoming 50 game regular season starting in mid January. Just my 2 cents.

If they went to an even 50 games from now on I'd be cool with it. They're truncating the season to account for the extended 2019-2020 season but it won't allow for enough rest for the best teams that went deep into October.
If we've seen a big-time pro league go back to work 10 weeks after the end of a delayed season I can't remember it. They're going to fill airtime but many stars may sit. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

I am a Warrior fan...kinda like to see my guys again, Steph, Klay and Draymond...I am cautiously optimistic for next season though it does seem premature. |

You should be very optimistic. How they look on the way back will affect the title chase. They can still win another one, and they may still make some moves.

The Knicks have made plenty of front office blunders throughout their history, but acquiring Russell Westbrook would be a disaster of epic proportions. Taking on that salary or losing a draft pick makes no sense. If they're trying to develop a young core of players, that won't happen with Westbrook dominating the ball. |

Klay Thompson (Warriors), tore his right Achilles. He will be out all season.
They will acquire Kelly Oubre.
This is terrible news.

It is if you're a Warriors fan. Although, I hate to see anyone with Achilles problems. Very long recovery. |

Cold? Are you a little on the sensitive side? I'm not a Warriors fan but I know someone personally who had Achilles problems so I know first hand how painful and long the recovery is. |

It's not about his long and painful recovery. It's his importance to the team; he was the #2 guy, a 3-point shooter, who could rack up 60 points at times. The team will not recover from this loss for 2-3 years.
I read all your posts about the Raptors and did not interfere with your enthusiasm.
I also have an attachment to a great team who just experienced an irreparable loss.
Annoyed I had to spell it out. [Edited 11/21/20 19:58pm] |

So the Raptors signed Fred VV, but we lost Ibaka. Signing Freddie was crucial to our team and I'm thrilled, but very sad to lose Serge. He's got such a great personality, he will be missed. I guess that's all part of the game. People come and go and people get injured. Hoping for another great season. |

Marc Gasol to the Lakers, who also signed Dennis Schroeder. Great moves.
Damn, Jordan is getting roasted on twitter for the Gordon Hayward contract, lol.

And Gasol to the Lakers Now we're left with Boucher and although I think he has great potential, we need someone in that position with experience and who is not afraid to get in there and use his strength. |

Somehow the Lakers got deeper and more athletic.

I think they'll miss Rondo for his experience and decision-making (in the playoffs). |

No doubt. Rondo went for the money, the Lakers couldn't match, and I don't blame either side.
Word is that maybe AD and LeBron opt out in '21 to make room to nab Giannis. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

That would be ridiculous. I couldn't imnagine Magic & Bird wanting to play together....they wanted to beat each other. Giannis should have that same attitude. |

Bird and Magic didn't need to team up. They won their titles pre-expansion and they each had (at least) 2 HOFers in their starting 5.

I just hope Giannis doesn't pull a bitch move like Kevin "Mr. Sensitive" Durant did. That OKC team had Golden State on the ropes, down 3-1, and choked the series away. Then he joins them the following season...weak. |

Giannis can't even get to the Finals, which is the only place he could meet the Lakers. It could happen this season, though, so you have a point.

Well, it's all academic now. Bron and AD both signed max/near-max deals, so there will be no room for Giannis (I presume).

I hate that the Knicks are bad, NY and the league both deserve better, but I wouldn't wish that fate on Giannis.
