Citizen Kane The Godfather, Pt II

...You just quoted, bruh. . But Francis Ford Coppola basically intimates the same sentiment in any interview he's ever done. He gingerly dances around stating it outright/directly because every interviewer is hyped-up fanboy like you, but he's always been honest he did those movies strictly for the ca$hflow, thought the book was an unadaptable mess, and tried intensely to get Paramount to hire Martin Scorsese (the true king of gangster/mafia epics) to direct Part II but the studio refused. . Literally watch any Coppola interview and watch him choke back the vomit, he thinks it's a bigger POS than any one else. [Edited 11/23/20 16:37pm]

Literally every Scorsese mob flick is superior to The Godfather: Mean Streets (1973) . Could even include The Departed or The Wolf of Wall Street, his non-mob classics like Taxi Driver, Raging Bull or The King of Comedy. . Even relatively obscuro-in-comparison gems like posted earlier in the thread to no fanfare:
Wayyyy better mob flick than Godfather. The relationship between Cee & Jane... characters that actually have depth.... Director DeNiro puttin' his rawfeelings on the screen. "Says who?", watch the friggin' films, wiseguy... Waddya'think Imm-aclown? Aye'amuzeyouu? Get your shinebox, slyjackson. [Edited 11/23/20 17:10pm]

Whispering. What do you think of Citizen Kane?

Great film, worthy of its lofty legendary status, particularly when accounting for era which I think most putting this at #1 are doing. . It's been awhile, though... is it streaming anywhere currently? [Edited 11/23/20 17:46pm]

If not, what would you say is? Just wondering.

Citizen Kane is streaming on HBO Max. Always consult justwatch.com first when you want to watch a movie you don’t own.

Seven Samurai was so tedious, like it never ended... Kurosawa's gotta have better... any recommend Rashomon? The Sword of Doom was best if focused on old school samurai, just ignore the blah ending. . Wild Strawberries (1957) surely deserves a mention if talking more methodical-paced old school foreign cinema. Very rich and compelling drama... [Edited 11/24/20 1:15am]

It's a damned shame that an unedited version of Welles' The Magnificent Ambersons doesn't exist... "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato
