Rate The Last Movie You Watched

Their Finest (2016)

A former secretary, newly appointed as a scriptwriter for propaganda films, joins the cast and crew of a major production while the Blitz rages around them.

Gemma Amerton is really good, as are Bill Nighy and Sam Claflin.

The Blue Angel (1930) - An elderly professor's ordered life spins dangerously out of control when he falls for a nightclub singer.

Marlene Dietrich is absolutely captivating as the alluring cabaret singer Lola. I recommend the more natural German-language version of the film of course. 4/5

The Last Days of Disco (1998) - Story of two female Manhattan book editors fresh out of college, both finding love and themselves while frequenting the local disco.

Typical dialogue-heavy Whit Stillman movie, but whereas I liked Metropolitan, this one felt lukewarm to me. And the Blu-ray transfer was crystal clear which I think detracted from the disco-era setting. Reviews for this are very good so I'll give it another chance at some point in the near future. 2.5/5

Season of the Witch (1972) - A neglected, unhappy suburban housewife with gets mixed up in witchcraft with unexpected consequences.

Unexpectedly subdued for a George A. Romero film. I thought there would have been more actual witchcraft instead of it being a psychological thriller. 3/5

Possession (1981) - A woman starts exhibiting increasingly disturbing behavior after asking her husband for a divorce. Suspicions of infidelity soon give way to something much more sinister.

I appreciated this much more watching it a second time, knowing it's an over-the-top bananas movie. 3.5/5

The Far Country (1954)

Different kind of Western as it's based on the Yukon Gold Rush time period in Alaska and the Yukon. Jimmy Stewart and a western, I'm not sure if I can be bias here as I love the genre and the actor.

Action, adventure, a little love story, betrayal,...this movie has it all. For a movie from the 1950s, it holds up. Another great film that's taken me too long to see, really an iconic movie.

Rewatched
A Boy Called Sailboat 4/5. I always wonder how the latino community takes this movie then i notice it's always on the latino channels.
A Hispanic family find hope in their extraordinary son named Sailboat when a personal gesture awakens a global desire. Armed with a "little guitar", Sailboat leads an offbeat cast into the miraculous story of the greatest secret never told.

Beast of the Southern Wild. 4.5/5. I adore this movie, get all weepy and everything.
Six-year-old Hushpuppy (Quvenzhané Wallis) lives with her father, Wink (Dwight Henry), in a remote Delta community. Wink is a stern taskmaster, but he is preparing his young daughter for the end of the world. When Wink falls mysteriously ill, nature seems to fall ill with him.

The Blair Witch Project (1999) - Three film students vanish after traveling into a Maryland forest to film a documentary on the local Blair Witch legend, leaving only their footage behind.

Many people think this film is a whole lot of nothing, but it's one of my favorite horror movies and I still find it very unsettling even after repeated viewings. 5/5

I saw this film just two weeks ago, I liked it, but i think the same, it's whole lot of nothing, didn't find it that scary although the thought of that happening in real life, that's some scary shit

I saw this movie at an art house theatre before any press came out about it.

Really thought it was actual lost footage. err until I got home and I heard that they maxed out a credit card to make it and sold it for a lot. Wasn't really scared but more tripping out that it could happen in the middle of the woods.

Recently found out that this is a horror genre that started in Italy with Cannibal Holocaust in 1980. I've never seen Cannibal Holocaust but it's on my list for this reason and because it was banned in some countries.

The Witch (2015) - A family in 1630s New England is torn apart by the forces of witchcraft, black magic, and possession.

Over the last few years, this has become a Halloween favorite. 4.5/5

That movie is creepy AF. I don't agree that it's better than all those other Hitchcock movies you mentioned - but it's very good.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Coco (2017) - Aspiring musician Miguel, confronted with his family's ancestral ban on music, enters the Land of the Dead to find his great-great-grandfather, a legendary singer.

An obvious choice with which to start the month of November. It's better watching with the Spanish-language audio track and English subtitles. 4/5

Saw Downhill first not knowing anything about the original. Personally I liked it so gave it a 3/5

Then watched Force Majeure to see why critics complained about Downhill 4/5 by the way. Far more details far more in depth. Don't think the wife's initial react would have played to American women well still it said more.

It follows the marital tension resulting from an avalanche during which the husband, named Tomas, prioritizes his own escape over the safety of his family.

Ammonite (2020)

1840s England, acclaimed but overlooked fossil hunter Mary Anning (Kate Winslet) and a young woman sent to convalesce by the sea (Saoirse Ronan) develop an intense relationship, altering both of their lives forever.

Winslet's affecting performance carries this good film, which almost beats you over the head like a bat with its "subtlety." Ronan was good, along with Gemma Jones and Alec Secareanu.

Upgrade (2018)

No actors I recognized but this movie was cool, scary and maybe our future. Reminded me of a possible future in the same way that Ex Machina did and it's a little frightening.

Cool concept of a guy getting an "upgrade" after becoming a quadriplegic. Not giving anything away other than this is a good movie and was a fun ride.

Bad Hair (2020) a campy horror film about a killer hair weave. It was both thought provoking and really entertaining with an amazing cast (Vanessa Williams worship ). Plus, they got the style and sounds of 1989 right thumbs up! I give this a 4.5 out of 5 popcorn
