Seems obvious to me too, but many people refuse to acknowledge that they feel pain in order to avoid the recognition that they might have any ethical standing at all. Ie, if they don't feel pain, I can do whatever I want to them, like lodging a barbed hook in their mouths/guts and lifting their thrashing body weight from it, allowing them to slowly suffocate to death.

If they DO feel pain, however, I might have to grant that causing suffering for no good reason is wrong, and I don't need to eat them to survive, so I really don't have a good reason to cause that suffering.

Weeelll. . .probably not. Plants and certain critters, such as mollusks and many insects, either have no real nervous system or an extremely basic one. They probably don't have any conscious experience at all, including the experience of pain.

If you wanna get techinical. smile

i've always thought they could anyway.I've never fished, i've known the odd person that does though. They seem to really enjoy sitting by a river bank for hours on end.confuse

I'd rather go for a walk in the country or lay in the park if i need to get some fresh air.Sitting there killing things is needless, it's not sport in my book, infact i find the whole process barbaric.

Well, I like to fish, and I only fish for fun... I throw them back.

I didn't click the link because I don't want to feel guilty the next time I go fishing.

sad

dish can be yummy, cooked outside over an open fire.
i don't think it's morally wrong to kill a fish and eat it. but, there's an awkward kind of transition stage where you sorta have to whack off their heads, slit them open and rake out the nasty bits with a big knife. and that transition stage was enough to put me right off my meal when i tried it all
