Audiophile turntable hounds With Vinyl making a comeback I'm starting to get that itch to dust off my vinyl and my mom's Stylistics 45's and get busy. I was considering upgrading my turntable. I've been rocking the same turntable I bought in 1986. Any vinyl hounds have any suggestions for some good turntables. I know Audio Technica is popular. Also any suggestions for phono pre amps and does it sound better than built in phono amps on your receiver. Also does the stylus you use with the turntable make a big difference in sound. I'm on a budget. I haven't got rich yet like SoulAlive. [Edited 7/8/20 1:48am] Don't laugh at my funk

I'd like this info too. My vinyl collection has gotten quite large but my turntable sucks. I'm on a budget too. "Let love be your perfect weapon..." ~~Andy Biersack

Definitely wouldn't describe myself as an "audiophile" so I'm sure I'm in no position to advise. I only recently upgraded from an Audio Technica LP60 to an LP120, and that was only really because I unexpectedly came into a bit of money, and Amazon UK was offering it for 'only' about £200 anyway.
So yeah, count me among the perpetually broke people as well.

What peaked my interest again is seeing some of these state of the art turntables that I would never buy in a magazine I saw on my job called Audio Advisor. I mean state of the art next century stuff. I also can't believe looking on Youtube that there are folks that would spend 700 dollars or more on a record cleaning machine. A machine just to splash some distilled water on some records(they like to call it deep cleaning). Hell no Don't laugh at my funk

Stay away from those Crosley suitcase units. I read where the stylus pressure on those will ruin your vinyl. Don't laugh at my funk

Those combination tables are pretty much all horrible quality last I checked. It's like how those combo VCR / DVD player everyone used to insist on when the formats first switched over was like the worst picture resolution / playback technologically possible.

You want to use lab-grade reagent water on wax... Distilled water?!? Might as well clean it with yoohoo and club soda.

The EAT C -Sharp reference turntable is very nice. I've noticed the prices on turntables have gotten completely out of control in the last few years. I still have my 1200's from decades ago.

My knowledge of the newer turntables since I started this thread has grown 100. I never heard of the Eat C Sharp. Everytime I see reviews online about turntables everybody talk about that Technics 1200 being the GOAT of turntables and almost all of them have hung on to it. I'm not spending no more than 300 on a TT. You're right about the prices being ridiculous. I've seen these magazines in the Post Office where there are state of the art platinum chrome TT's running 2000 plus dollars. Not my kind of investment. Don't laugh at my funk

You're not going to get anything even remotely resembling audiophile quality with one of those units. Formerly TheDigitalGardener etc.

I finally decided on a Crosley C8 TT. Crosley has stepped up their game in making some quality TT's. They along with Victrola were known for making novelty suitcase record players and mediocre all in one systems with ceramic cartridges. Crosley has made new TT's based on Pro Ject models, Audio Technica, and Fluance. The Crosley C8 is built similar to the Fluance models. It has a beautiful wood finish. I set mine up yesterday and it looks and sounds amazing. It makes my vinyl sound brand new. I was glad to upgrade after using the same TT I've had for 34 years. Don't laugh at my funk

U Turn is good. The 2 things that turned me off about them is unless you upgrade to the higher end units the cue lever isn't standard and they charge 40 dollars. All TT's should come with a cue lever. The other thing is the belt that you have to switch if you want to go back and forth between listening to 33 and 45. It's a great turntable though with an assortment of styles. Pretty impressive and they are made in the USA. Don't laugh at my funk
