What is now at your old Blockbuster Video store?

220px-Blockbuster_logo.svg.png

It's been about 10 years now since Blockbuster starting closing down it's stores. What is at your former Blockbuster store? Mine is a pet store and a Jamba juice.

In the UK here ... my local was turned in to a doctors surgery (a good thing) and some cheap town centre apartments (not so good).

The one in the next town over is still empty and still has its old sign up. I'll try and get a photo next time I'm over there.

Funny you mention BB, as I went to the cinema last week and had to "pay" for the first time in ages (we previously had monthly passes we paid a set fee for which allowed you to see as many movies as you liked, but the pass expired). It was £12.50 just for a single!! I thought for the first time how much I missed being able to rent a movie cheap and how I'd use that service more now that cinema ticket prices are so ridiculously expensive.

It initially got bought out by Hollywood Video, then another became a Christian store (*gifts cards all that bs...white bearded Jesus in a bathrobe) then the whole thing got leveled and now it's a TARGET and mini super mall.

Also, when i played catch up a month ago to watch all the marvel films i missed....i saw CAPTAIN MARVEL. (At 1.5x speed cause it wasn't much of anything aside from the reveal) BUT! I GOT A HUGE KICK OUT OF KNOWING ALL THE L.A. LOCATIONS!

**THEY EVEN BUILT THAT BLOCKBUSTER VIDEO WHERE AN OLD ONE USED TO BE (nearby it, there was an old linens place there, when i was a boy my mom would shop there. Yarn and extra stuff like that. It was hella nostalgic seeing parts of Noho reinterpreted like that

THEKILLINGJOKE

There's been a couple. The one in Fresno was a Rite Aid for a few years, but It's been vacant for years now. Shame though, because the location and property are pretty nice. And the one in the East Bay(San Francisco area) is a PetFoodExpress.

I kind of miss going to places like Blockbuster Video, and renting and buying things. The internet is great for its convenience and its accessibility to merchandise, but it has its downsides as well. Honestly i wouldn't be all that disappointed if things somehow went back to the way they were before online shopping took over(or pretty much took over) brick and mortar stores. The convenience of shopping from home doesn't mean that much to me. It's just the access to product. In regard to that, the internet has brick and mortar beat. And bad.

The World’s Last Blockbuster Has No Plans to Close

With the closing of a Blockbuster store in Australia, the one in Bend, Ore., will be the last to survive changes in technology and shopping that reshaped the way people watch movies at home.

Image result for blockbuster bend oregon"

Fifteen years ago, a movie fan could go into any of Blockbuster’s 9,000 stores and walk out with a Steven Spielberg hit.

Now, options are limited for those who want to rent a hard copy of “Saving Private Ryan” from somewhere other than a library. There are only two Blockbuster stores left in the world.

Very soon, there will only be one.

The second-to-last Blockbuster, a squat blue-and-yellow slab wedged next to a real estate agency in Western Australia, will stop renting videos on Thursday and shut down for good at the end of the month. Two stores in Alaska, part of the final group of Blockbuster outlets in the United States, closed in July.

That will make the Blockbuster in Bend, Ore., one of a kind: a corporate remnant, just off the highway, near a cannabis retailer and a pet cremation service.

But this is no elegy for Blockbuster, no lament for how Netflix killed the video star. There were plenty of those when the company filed for bankruptcy protection in 2010, shriveled to 300 stores and then mostly closed.

This is about the ability of the Bend store, like sturdy links in other dying chains, to live on and avoid being turned into a pawnshop or a fast-food restaurant.

The Bend store became a Blockbuster franchise in 2000. It has about 4,000 active accounts and signs up a few fresh ones each day, Ms. Harding said. Some of the new customers are tourists who have traveled hours out of their way to stop in.

Several calls to the store’s landline on Wednesday were greeted by a steady busy signal or hold music (the “Star Wars” theme). On sale inside was Blockbuster-branded merchandise, including trucker hats, cups, even magnets made by a local teacher.

The store has several years left on its lease and a license agreement that its owners sign annually with Dish Network, which bought Blockbuster for $320 million in 2011.
