Even before Prince, my favorite color was purple, lilac, lavender. | |

Red. But not just any red. It has to be clear, primary red - no pink or yellow undertones. Definitely not warm or tomato-y. It's the red that just says RED in the Crayola box. The red my university calls "cardinal." We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves. | |

(It’s a family trait - my mom and other women on both sides of my family have it, too.) I have an exact shade of pretty much every color that I like. Except orange. There is just no shade of orange that works for me. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves. | |
