No Arnold. No Statham. No "Yesterday". Etc. Etc. Etc.

BUT "MAGIC MIKE XXL"?!? No, I didn't see it but I saw the first "Magic Mike" and it was really, really stupid. And we all know that sequels are never as good as the original, so I am confident that "Magic Mike XXL" was a really, really, REALLY stupid movie. It's science.

The art of self defense -

A dark comedy that I don't think everyone in the theatre really understood, I think there was only two of us laughing throughout the whole movie. An older couple got up and left about a quarter of the way in, always a good sign.

Immediate cult classic with so many lines that made me laugh, it needs to watched again to catch them all. Did I mention is was a DARK comedy? Some of the things that happen are really messed up but in this universe (in the mid-1990's) nothing is off limits.

I watch on average a movie a day, and of that list i saw just 9! And based on those 9, i call that list bullshit.

Tarantino's lastest is well made, good natured buddy pic that is not going to break any box office records. The main flaws will depend on taste and not on filmmaking skill. I liked it, but don't love it. Some of Tarantino's artistic plot choices i found questionable.

DiCaprio and Pitt are great and very charming together and have great chemistry. DiCaprio's acting is Oscar worthy and im sure he will get a nomination and most likely win.
The movie is long and takes its sweet time getting towards the end, so if you have trouble with long talkie movies, then you may want to wait and see it at home.
Other than that, i think the less you know going in the better.
There is one lighthearted mid credits scene.

I liked it very much. Wouldn't be surprised if Pitt wins Best Supporting Actor.

Well, it's certainly not going to do superhero/sci-fi numbers, but I have a feeling it'll be QT's highest-grossing (even on the adjusted-for-inflation scale). I think it'll do very, very well (especially if it picks up Oscar nods/wins - which - at this point - I believe it will).

I've read some speculate about Burt Reynolds. It's weird to me in why make up history about some things and use real people and events for others. I thought that was unnecessary and possibly exploitive. I find that aspect cringy. Especially since that gimmick was already used in Inglorious Bastards and i wasn't quite on board with it then. Thats among my own problems with it.

It could be a composite. Clint came to mind because he was a TV star first, on Rawhide and then did the spaghetti westerns in Italy which really helped his brand, and the rest is history.

Secret Life of Pets 2 6.5/10

i went to see this with a friend on Sunday evening since I loved the first one.
I didn't like this one as much as the story was meandering all over the place. The little ones in the audience absolutely loved it though.

The animation is absolutely bananas-amazing! Even though I was bored all the way through, i was mesmerized by the art involved. I was someone who used to keep up with the art of traditional animation as well as computer animation, but things have gotten so over my head to the point where it's just blurred into magic for me.

I am not sure if there is a category for Best Computer Animation for the Oscars, but if there is not, there absolutely needs to be one. Things are getting so good that people need to get awards just for best computer animation, and not the all inclusive Best Animated feature or Special FX. Amazing work being done!
