Well, considering the nominees being what they are, I’ve been in complete agreement with the winners so far.

The standard of the movies nominated is an all time low. Avengers Infinity War, Black Panther and Mission Impossible were all critically acclaimed. I hate the bias against entertainment at these types of awards shows.

Yeah but entertaining and well made movies are not the same thing. Mission Impossibme is technically impressive but a shit movie. Infinity war is a fun kids movie but not great movie making. There were a LOT of fun movies this past year, but not many truly great movies. The Golden Hlobes typically caters to low brow pop hits such as Bohemian Rhapsody, and that’s exactly what won.

You're an unapologetic movie snob. But at least you're consistent. :-D

Mission Impossible Fallout has a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes and featured on virtually every "Best movies of 2018" list. You think it's shit. But that's only your opinion and its not one that's shared by many others. After all, it's one of the best reviewed movies of the year.

Avengers Infinity War is probably the most technically difficult movie to make. Ever. It is a near miracle how they managed to fit in so many big characters and at no point did it feel like the movie suffered for it. The writing, directing and visual effects were among the best of 2018. And that was reflected in many publications including Empire Magazine, who listed it as number 1 on their best of 2018 countdown.

The likes of the Academy Awards always ignores great movies in favour of pretentious crap.

Neither of those two movies will age well. They are expensive disposable movies of the zeitgeist.

Also congrats to Mahershala Ali on winning his FIRST Best Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture for ‘The Green Book’ (that I attended an ULTRA private screening of a couple of weeks before it's release) LOVED IT despite the controversy regarding the film.

I don't agree with that. The first Mission Impossible movie is 23 years old. It's aged pretty well. And the latest movie was held in higher regard. And The Avengers is this generations Star Wars. They are big events that will be remembered for a long time to come.

Exactly. Ive seen them all and i can’t remember what any of them are about other than car chases and running and the usual mindless spy premises.

They look automatically dated and primitive. Star Wars still holds up. That the story telling and direction is janky is just as sight that like all those Spider-Man and Batman movies they will be soon rebooted with new versions ever few years. That the original Star Wars still hold up while the prequels and sequel trilogies look and feel dated says a lot about the first batch.

...and speaking about Star Wars and Avengers, I don’t know if anyone has noticed, or gave um “props” to Lucas, but the prequel trilogy’s green screen look and feel is exactly the same as today’s Marvel movies. George Lucas pioneered the look and feel of today’s CG green screen movies in 1999. I’m not even joking or trying to be sarcastic, go back and look at the look and feel of Attack of The Clones and it’s exactly the same as today’s Marvel movies. George Lucas was criticized for that look almost two decades ago and now it’s the standard for the green screen blockbusters today.

I can say this about Infinity War, they did an excellent job with keeping track of their characters, beyond what I could have expected.

I have yet to see Regina's movie, waiting on other people, I think I'm going to blow them off and just go.

M.Ali has a special place in my heart since I first saw him on The 4400. Gotta see True Crimes.

Good point but it's all about money at the end of the day right. Those movies made enough so wouldn't be the worst thing if a prime time event with millions of viewers like Golden Globe gave a shoutout to others that were just as critically acclaimed but didn't make as much. Though I don't believe this show cares that much about prioritizing artistic meaningful films or shedding light on low budget indies, for some reason it's kind of a relief not seeing Infinity War at the show. I love the movie but too much exposure so far...

Also another thing is that I think IW's storyline is bs. It's just not a good story. I could see why movies like Lord of the rings, that achieved massive success at the theaters could still garner all these awards, it has such a solid well-written story overall. Compare to that Marvel movies, as much as I love them, are more of a compilation of last minute changes, repetitive wits and so many unnecessary characters imo.

Those 3 movies got better reviews across the board than Bohemian Rhapsody. And Bohemian Rhapsody ended up winning Best Picture at the Golden Globes. So you have a movie which received mixed reviews winning the top award and then you have 3 critically acclaimed movies not even nominated. And the reason for that is clear to see. Snobbery. Plain and simple.

You can argue that Infinity War doesn't have a good story but is A Star Is Born or Bohemian Rhapsody really any better?

The fact that Bohemian Rhapsody won best picture is anti-snobbery to it's fullest. Very few high brow critics liked it much, yet it was a commercial smash despite it's lack of artistry. There are plenty of people like me who enjoyed it for the Queen music and Malik's acting that did not necessarily think it was artistically accomplished. Also, the Golden Globe are renown for picking films that are not in keeping with the critics and the academy awards. The head scratching is not because their choices are so high brow or snobbish. Critics as well as others can recognize that some action films have merits and exhibit some creativity, but the mind numbing and stereotyped stories and the predictable endings of most of them make them underserving of Best picture awards. Again, nothing to do with snobbery.
