^Yes there were indeed many differences between the book and the adaption, in fact way too many to list them all... The basis of the novel was just used as a building ground to promote new ideas and as you've said, address issues that modern audiences could relate to. That said, they've still incorporated a lot of pioneering themes while reviewing the historical aspects of the novel (in particular about the native americans) and showed interesting lifestyle details too. I love all the clothes and the primitive country home deco at the Ingalls.

I read somewhere Michael Landon had the set blown up for real because he didn't want anyone using bits and pieces of it down the road.

Yeah, I remember the series ending in which Michael Landon blows up the town. That was quite a spectacular finale...

^I knew that the deal with the land owner at the time was to restore the show set to its original state when the show would end and that therefore Michael Landon had some of the buildings of Walnut Grove dynamited as part of the last episode's story (The Last Farewell S10 E03), though I am not sure if he had other reasons to do this (other than to restore the land back to how it used to be).

'The Birth Of An Invention

In 1979, while filming an episode of Little House on the Prairie, Garett Brown had a conversation with actor and former football player Merlin Olsen about the lack of available camera angles in the NFL, and how this influences the overall viewer experience. Brown’s chat with Olsen stuck with him and two years later, Brown began developing Skycam, a camera system suspended from a network of cables that can be controlled via computer. This invention revolutionized the way we watch sports.' http://www.ninjajournalis...ecrets-tb/

^ I haven't seen it yet, but is sure looks spooky. People wrongly assume that because a story features in the Little House On The Prairie, it will be ok for younger audiences. Well, they could not be more wrong, there are many episodes that have been rated PG and PG-12.

Interestingly, the first of Laura Ingalls' book, 'Pioneer Girl: The Annotated Autobiography' from which the Little House books were then created, was the closest to Laura's real life and originally contained many elements that were unsuitable for children. It was Rose, Laura's daughter, who then decided to edit and romanticise the whole story so that it could become popular and suitable for children.
