I don't really watch club football but I always watch the internationals. Unfortunately Ireland are useless so we didn't qualify but I'll still be watching. Unfortunately, my second team, Italy, also failed to qualify so I think I'll be cheering for Argentina this year.

Use to be a big football fan as a kid. I was ten in 1990 so that was my first World Cup and I have great memories of it. www.filmsfilmsfilms.co.uk - The internet's best movie site!

Finally getting to watch a live game. Diving ponce Cristiano Ronaldo up to his old tricks after just a couple of minutes, Portugal 1-0 up after the resulting penalty. It's been a good game so far but I don't think Portugal deserve to be leading. A clear and obvious dive from Ronaldo for the penalty. Why didn't the ref consult with the VAR? And they have the Spanish goalkeeper to thank for the second goal. He made a complete bollocks of it.

First use of VAR as a clear non-penalty is awarded to France. I thought this kind of technology was supposed to make sure that sort of thing didn’t happen. I was out and I missed the game but my cousin was going crazy about it. I just assumed it was because she lived most of her life in Australia and she was being a bit biased. But it was definitely the wrong decision?

But it was definitely the wrong decision? It looked it, but the more replays I’ve seen from other angles the more I’ve thought it might indeed have been a penalty. Really difficult one to call. Well, my cousin is convinced it was a soft decision but like I said, she may well be biased. Although I think Argentina should have had a second penalty against Iceland but the referee didn't even bother consulting the VAR and just waved play on. What's the point of having this technology if they're not going to use it?

A weekend of strange results - Croatia beating Nigeria 2-0 was the only one I got right.
