LMAO, the Mexican goal celebration was recorded on earthquake equipment. How cool is that!

I bet my English friends are not too happy right now. Still 5 minutes plus stoppage time left as I type this but Tunisia is hanging tough very well.

Yeah, that was just amazing.

Two penalties and a fluke for Harry Kane makes him only the third English player in history to get a hat-trick at a World Cup. Despite the amount of luck involved, the English media are now putting him on the same level as actual great players like Messi, Maradona and both the Ronaldos. Typical. Ahead of the 2006 world cup they were saying that Wayne Rooney was as good as Figo and Zidane. biggrin

:falloff:

Cmon, Kane is awesome! He’s the rare bird who stayed loyal to his first club and didn’t ditch them for Manchester, Madrid, Munich or Paris.

Nobody has put in an offer yet. Those teams you mentioned don't really need him because they've already got better players. Man City have Aguero, Madrid have Ronaldo, Munich have Lewandowski and PSG have Neymar. But I bet as soon as one of those clubs want him, he'll be on the first plane out of there.

^^^ I don’t follow the football but I’ll let you into a little secret: despite having lived in England for 18 years I always want them to lose in all sports competitions. I’m sorry for any English person in this forum, but you’re freaking unbearable when you win. My Facebook is full of ‘it’s coming home’ memes and other stupid comments, taking for granted that they’re winning this because the beat freaking Panama. I might ring in sick tomorrow to avoid the conversations. And then ring in sick again on Tuesday is Spain lose. Because I don’t give a damn who loses or who wins, but apparently most people can’t accept that and feel the need to ‘it’s coming home’ me every time they see me mad

That's the thing. I don't actually mind if England win. But I hate the way a lot of their fans and media go on about it. They still talk about winning it in 1966. If they win this year, and I fear they will, we'll never hear the end of it.

That phrase seriously does my head in!! Some clown said it in the office yesterday and I quizzed him ... "you know, football, England and that" ... riiiiiight, that makes sense.

You have to love Diego Maradona. He's in all the papers this morning for his antics during the Argentina/Nigeria game last night. Given that he also supposedly collapsed after the game, I'd say its fair to assume he was probably on something. Best player of all time and also one of the great "characters" of football but I wish he'd just take better care of himself.

Every time I saw him in the crowd last night, whatever he was doing made me like him a wee bit more. Yup, best player there's ever been, and by all accounts a really good guy who lives life to the full (but could do with looking after himself a bit better).

The "it's coming home" song is easily modified into "they're going home" when England inevitably get knocked out, though.

Germany got everything they deserved. Man, did they look bad. And hat's off to South Korea for giving it their all in a game that meant nothing to them.

What about Sweden? Wow, they trounced Mexico! I had completely overlooked them, but won't do that again.

Sweden play better as a team without Ibrahimovic.

I totally forgot he's Swedish.

EDIT: Looked it up (after I posted, of course!) and saw he has retired from international play.

Yes, germany was terrible. I'm still pissed at Neuer. What the fuck was he thinking??

I've seen him do similar things in the past and get away with it. At that point, a single goal for Germany wouldn't have been enough. They needed to go all out attack and if that means playing with an additional outfield player, then so be it. Besides, that second Korean goal didn't matter in the end anyway.
