Star Trek Part 5

Morn_large.jpg

Well I finally got to see the episode "Who Morns for Mourn". Kinda figured Mourn faked his own death. If they did kill him off I would have been pissed. Love the running joke that Mourn never shuts up.

320x240.jpg

Loved his fake wife

Funny they said Mourn was a prince

So is this the infamous "F bomb" on Discovery? Do they say it more than one time during the show?

IIRC they say it twice, in the same scene. I don't remember hearing it any other time in the season.

Hoping to hear some info about a bluray release soon...

Most likely they will release it when season 2 airs

I grew up watching TNG ... BBC2, Wednesday evenings at 6pm. Enjoyed all seven season.

Hadn't seen it for years though and sat down to watch some episodes couple of weeks back ... and it hasn't aged well ...!! Was amazed how little happens in an episode and how cheap it looked. I guess at the time it looked great but time hasn't been kind.

Yeah it use late 80's CGI for the Enterprise. Honestly the ships in Battlestar Galactica and Buck Rogers looked better. But the CGI did get some what better towards the end of the series. The inside of the Enterprise was horrible, looked like a hotel lobby for the bridge. Yeah there were episodes where they did alot of character development but there were alot of very interesting action packed episodes as well.

Yeah, I probably just caught some of the slower episodes. I remember some of them being awesome (and I use to know all the names and what series they were in to!) ... I have an episode guide book still kicking around somewhere, I'll have to dig it out. Only names I can remember at the mo are Encounter At Far Point and Best of Both Worlds.

I can't relate. Not only does TNG still hold up for me, but so does TOS. Not only that, I prefer the original versions. I don't go in for the HD remasters with the new special effects. Give me the original versions any day. I feel the same about the remasters as I do the Star Wars Special Editions... same thing.

That said, there are some boring talky episodes, but that's okay. There's plenty of great ones tipping the scales. wink

I don't mind them too much if there is another side story going on in the episode. I did not like the episode where Picard was captured by the Cardassaians and was totured for the episode. Then DS9 also did the same thing with O'brien getting captured by the Cardassians.

That Picard episode is considered a favorite by many (including Patrick Stewart, iirc), but not by me. It's alright, I don't dislike it, but it's not a favorite. Now that episode with Beverly Crusher and the ghost... that one I dislike. lol

As for "did the same thing"... yeah, there's lots of that in Star Trek. If you watch all 29 seasons of the 6 shows + the animated series & the 13 movies, you'll notice lots of rehashed ideas. With that much material, I don't mind so much.

I agree.................... but Picard getting tortured by the Cardassians and then O'Brien was EXACTLY THE SAME EPISODE.

I think there's an episode of TNG that's almost the exact same story as Star Trek: Insurrection. There's lots of other examples too, I'm just not awake enough to remember them right now. LOL!

I had a huge thing for Gates McFadden growing up. Most of my friends were all about Marina Sirtis, but give me Dr. Crusher any day. I remember a mate found a pic of Gates she supposedly did for Playboy, kept me entertained for many an evening! biggrin ... then years later I found out it was fake sad Noooooo!!

The first movie is pretty good, even if the premise that Nero changing events in the past created an alternate universe is bullshit... we all know that's now how it works in Star Trek. Maybe that happens in the Marvel Universe, but, in the Star Trek universe when you change something in the past it erases your history. We've seen this over and over again. Other than that, it's a fun movie.

The second one is pretty good for the first 2/3 of the movie, then suffers from some of the shittiest writing in Star Trek history for the final third of the movie.

The third one is just fine.

The casting for McCoy and Scottie are so good, surely you have to give them at least that.

OK the pro's and con of the new movies

Con's

Destroying the timeline, yet everyone seems to still have the same job/ Destroying Vulcan, WTF/ All of the inside of the Enterprise is HORRIBLE, looks like a department store. Benedict Cumberbatch as Kahn was bad casting. Tyler Perry cameo barf barf barf might as well throw in some Kardashians while your at it.

Pro's

The casting of the Kirk, Spock, and McCoy is good. Scotty ehhh, maybe played up to much for laughs. Stargate Atlantis actor Paul McGillion would have been a way better choice. The rest are ok I guess. John Cho being cast as Sulu was no big surprise there. I do like the new character of Keesner.

The Movies

Part 1. Over rated for some reason. Felt like watching Star Trek Nemesis, and people seem to put that movie down.

Part 2. ehhh, trying hard to follow the wrath of Khan and they failed. Once again Benedict Cumberbatch as Kahn was bad casting.

Part 3. People seem to find this movie the least popular of the 3 but I liked it the best. Getting tired of Idris Elba though.

I'm guessing they are planning on making two more movies. I hope in the last movie they restore the timeline, then I'll be a little less harsh on the movies. Honestly what a waisted opprotunity here. Would have been better showing Kirk taking right after Pike. Would only have Kirk, Spock and Scotty in the first movie. Kill off Dr. Piper and introduce Dr. McCoy at the end of part 1. The next movies slowly introduce Sulu and Uhura. Introduce Chekov towards the end but he can't be a bridge officer because Chekov didn't appear in the original series until season 2.

She was a red head then. Also come to think of it there was a young red headed lady in her 30's handling the autographs fee's. I think she might have been Gates daughter, they kinda looked alike. Once again real nice lady. I think she liked the fact I knew about the TV show Marker (shot in Hawaii and that is where I'm at) that she did right after TNG went off the air. We talked about it and how 21 jump star actor Richard Greico was drunk and partying all the time. Told Gates that I saw him at the clubs back in the day, nice guy but he liked to party.
