They can definitely be proud of getting to the semi final. Even if they did only have to beat the likes of Sweden and Columbia. But on paper, England aren't much better than those teams so fair play to them. But Croatia are hardly world beaters though so the fact that they beat England, and like you said, they were the better team, says a lot about how good (or bad) England really are.

Anyway..... I think France will beat Croatia in the final.
But then, I thought Belgium would beat France and that England would beat Croatia, so what do I know. [Edited 7/12/18 1:26am] "Shit" might be a bit strong a word but they were definitely poor. Their team ranges from well below average to just slightly above average, with Sir Harry Kane being the only player in the team who would be considered to be "good". But that's all he is. He's not in the same category as the likes of Neymar, Messi, Ronaldo etc as the English media would like to think he is. So England won't be troubling the world's best in future world cups unless they're handed an even easier draw, which is unlikely. This was their best chance and they couldn't even get past Croatia, another average team. BUT, taking everything into consideration, England did still get to a semi final and they can at least say that they are the second best of the average teams, so that's some consolation. And with any luck, the English media won't be so quick to hype up their average team next time so that if they end up getting to the knockout stages or even a quarter final, it will be seen as a genuine achievement rather than a big failure. Because on Sky Sports news last night, they were behaving as if all their pets had been killed. They were sitting there in their waistcoats nearly crying. As Roy Keane said, it was a reality check they so sorely needed. Hopefully they'll learn from it.

come on France... | |

I'm rooting for Croatia but in the semis, France looked stronger than anyone I've seen. Of course, I am NO expert, LOL.

Two fluky goals for France at the half, vs. one beautiful goal for Croatia. I fully expect Croatia to score again and then after that?

Good win for France but there was never any doubt that they would win. So that's it for the World Cup. Club football is of no interest to me so I am now waiting for Euro 2020, which will hopefully feature Ireland. Given that UEFA have expanded the tournament to include more teams, therefore making it easier to qualify for, we should make it if we don't get a tough qualifying group. Although you also have to account for Ireland being pretty bad so who knows.
