I didn't get It Comes At Night.

It was vauge about a lot of things, and that frustrated me at first, but ultimately kept me thinking about the movie after it was over (so thats a plus in my book). The general plot was pretty straightforward though, I thought.

i really liked it too, though it ended up just outside my own top tier. it was a great piece of controlled tension, i thought.
i recently watched that director's first film 'krisha' and i also thought it was great stuff. a different kind of movie - it's a micro-budget indie about an alcoholic trying to make amends at a family get-together - but it also has that same kind of careful tightness & feeling of impending disaster. really worth watching if it can be found.

the village voice published its full annual critics poll results today. it looks more or less like what you'd expect, though i think there were some interesting surprises on it, the nicest one being nocturama, which i thought was so great, showing up at #8. it never really showed in theatres in north america i think, & just ended up buried on netflix, & didn't seem to attract much attention at year end, so i think it's pretty neat to see it slotted so high.

i was also pretty surprised to see columbus, which did seem to be on everyone's year end list, way down at #31.

it's right at the top of my 'need to see' list. it only screened here for 4 days late last year, at a time that was really impractical for me, so i'm waiting for it to pop up on streaming or itunes. it was already on my radar, & seeing cleo... made it that much more urgent.

i dont get the love for Ghost Story......boring ass shit
