so, what did we think of the premiere?? i wasn't disappointed, but again in my opinion* i felt like the characters spent a whole lot of time talking about how they were going to make the world great, without actually doing very much along those lines.

perhaps when the season gets rolling they will become more active, but what in the heckity heck were they standing around talking to Negan for????

i might be the only one who thinks this but imo it would have been a tad more effective to simply open fire on the dude while he was standing there in plain sight and completely unprotected. in fact, why did Negan risk himself by being all exposed like that??

war had already been declared, there was no parlay in effect, and had it been me i'd have simply popped Negan where he stood the instant he stepped out the door. boom! gone. done.

so, it seemed strange to me that Rick and Negan conversed as long as they did before hostilities commenced. then again, it's not like i've been in any wars myself.

overall, a nice opener, nothing to sneeze at. looking forward to seeing how it all develops. i loved seeing the characters all united for the common cause, together again with reinforcements and new recruits. back to the old days of Rick & Company.

btw, what is the 'dream sequence' stuff all about? Rick with a long beard and short-cropped white hair and little judith aged forward??? anyone know???

*(disclaimer: i am not now, nor have i ever been, a critic, literary or otherwise and this is only my opinion and represents only my personal reaction)

I'm with you, it was too stupid for them to not shoot Negan instead of talkin. I think the dream secuence it's some years afterwards the defeat of Negan.

My guess is....this is a dream that Rick was having, showing what the future will be like (without Negan,of course). This show has done these type of 'future' sequences in the past without really explaining to us what it all means nuts but I like these scenes

I agree. There was also a moment in the season 7 finale when the shooting starts and yet nobody aims for Negan nuts that is so frustrating to see! And now, once again,Rick had a chance to kill him but doesn't do it. Hopefully, this season, things will speed along faster and we will finally see the end of Negan.

Those familiar with the comics will definitely recognise the 'dream/future' sequences ... a future without Negan though? ... well smile ...

Enjoyed the first episode. I think the creators definitely responded to the 'its moving too slow' criticisms from last year. But as others have mentioned, why in holy hell didn't Rick shoot Negan when he came out of the factory?!! Rick was a mere 20 or 30 metres away with a clear line of sight ... one bullet, job done. They can't big up the whole Rick desperately needing to kill Negan himself only to have him ignore his best chance to take him out.

During the final battle of the 'war' Rick and Negan grapple on the floor and Negan snaps Rick's leg in half (hence the walking cane) before he's defeated.

The comics then did a time jump (which was a shock to readers at the time) of about 2 or 3 years. Rick now has short hair, long beard, walks with a cane. Alexandria is a big farming community and trades with surrounding communities like the Kingdom, Hilltop. Cars are all dead, so its horseback only ... all very peaceful.

Negan is kept prisoner in Rick's 'jail' and they have a sort of Hannibal / Clarice thing going on where they talk through the cell bars ... very cool. Peace then gets broken when the next villains turn up, which is actually something different to the villains that have gone before ... so I'm hoping the TV show follows this direction.

^^ i actually hope that the show doesn't go in that direction.I don't want them to put Negan into a "prison"...I want him to be killed biggrin if they put him in prison, there is always the chance that he could escape

Its written as Rick holding on to some of his humanity and how things were done previously in 'normal' life when he was a cop ... justice rather than revenge. And he wanted to prove to Negan that he was better than him but not just killing for the sake of it.

There's an element of Negan some people quite like ... like the Joker he's very charismatic, so I think depsite despising his acts of violence some of us have a soft spot for him (and he does operate with logic even if his methods are brutal). It would therefore be a shame to kill him, and it would be even more cool if he wound up fighting on the same side as Rick against an even bigger threat ...

interesting points. i have to agree with Negan being appealing, and imo, even more appealing than Rick in an odd way.

i've been questioning Rick's humanity and sense of justice ever since he initiated hostilities with Negan by leading his team into Negan's place to kill so many of his men while they slept, and before they had done anything wrong to Rick & Co.

in the comics this is not the way things happened, and i wish the writers had stuck to the comic storyline in this case. i sure don't agree with Rick's willingness to do something like that to complete strangers who had never wronged him or his team.

imo, it's nothing short of strange that Negan only killed two of Rick's people in retaliation, on the basis that 'people are a resource'. neither character seems to be standing true to their motivations, but instead seem to be waffling around in order to justify a complex storyline.

it would be completely and totally mind-bendingly weird if Rick, after threatening Negan right to his face with death multiple times, eventually decides to simply jail him. then again i suppose the writers will come up with reasons enough for me to continue suspending my disbelief a while longer.

sorry fellow orgers. harsh comments deleted. *i* am not the writer of this show. will work on being a bit more upbeat and positive, or refraining from posting my isht. i really do love this show.
*

episode 2 was fast-paced and exciting. so sorry about Eric being all gut-shot. he is likely not going to recover from that. and Rick once again ending up hostage, duh. hopefully Daryl will shoot Rick's captor right quick and get them both out of there.

hmm in a post-apocalyptic world, maybe sociopathic and psychopathic personality types would survive best. especially charming people like Negan.

yes. i agree that there was an awful lot of standing around and debating the morality of 'war'. Tara and Jesus, Ezekiel and Carol.... those issues should have been resolved long before any battles began, imo
