i finally got around to watching moonrise kingdom myself last night. i've liked every anderson movie i've seen, but i never quite swooned over them. this is the closest i've come to truly liking one of his films rather than just thinking it was cute & clever & pretty good, and i think i'd definitely rate it as his best (from what i've watched to date of course). 4/5 [Edited 7/28/17 21:20pm]

fair point, there's certainly a level of craftsmanship in anderson movies that's very rare. in that sense, there's an interestng comparison to the kind of painstaking care in dunkirk. obviously completely different, yet i think both movies & both directors have a deep appeal to people who care for craft of film-making.

Yeah and you can add Kubrick to that list. They certainly do not feel free-form of spontaneous. They're a different Animal.

Why's it gotta be about "brand loyalty"... the MARVEL films have just been more consistently entertaining, and better.

i thought that movie was truly great. have you seen 'a separation' or 'the past' (also by farhadi)? if not, i think you'll find them very much worth watching. sexton will back me up on this, i'm pretty sure. [Edited 7/28/17 19:52pm]

i'm truly bummed tonight. i went down to the local theatre expecting to see 'the red turtle' (it clearly shows it scheduled for this evening when you search for local movies through google) only to find no films playing tonight due to the venue being taken over by the fringe festival. harrumph. Girls Trip was hilarious! Tiffany Haddish stole the whole movie.

Atomic Blonde A very generous 7/10 A generous 7 on style and tone, and music a very sexy Charlize Theron. Violent and unchohesive but well made. Did I mention Charlize looks sexy as hell.

Girl's Trip 3.5/5 It was fun, predictable, but fun.

barton fink 4/5 my third or fourth viewing, i think. i've never quite fallen for barton fink, certainly not the way i have for my favourite coens. it's stuffed with great dialogue and scenes, a lot of them courtesy of john goodman, and like all their best movies, it definitely rewards repeat watches, but it's never completely come together in a satisfying way for me the way fargo does, to use the most obvious example.

too predictable, especially the ending. That grapefruit scene, though, omg.
