That's not so strange nowadays. My husband for instance does not watch t.v. He gets everything he needs off the internet. Also, we have Roku if we want to stream movies. I only have a few t.v. programs that I watch and maybe the local news and that's it.

To answer OPs question, I'm not owning a TV anymore. In the past I was watching several hours daily, but I got rid of mine ~7-8 years ago. Now I'm an internet addict, not that much better

A screen is a screen. My roommate says I watch a lot of TV while he lays there with an iPhone six inches from his face.... Watching stuff that is on "TV". . People carry their TV around with them in their pockets now and do all kinds of things with them for hours on end as a reflex. This morning for instance a young lady walking slowly in front of me towards an escalator was typing something so furiously that I lifted my device a bit higher, pretended to type as furiously, and cut right in front of her. She didn't even notice. Spoken word is becoming obsolete as TV. It's a strange zombification, not couch potatoes but walking potatoes. if it was just a dream, call me a dreamer 2

Wow so it's always been the same, just different ways.

Good point however these days the device is also watching you! The difference between books and newspapers are twofold on buses and trains, one being the device can also hold a conversation using voice and/or text, video, snap, gif whatever two not many people did walk full lengths with books or papers spread wide open oblivious to their surroundings. I'm wondering why not say what you need to say while in transit versus texting as you step off the train, it's silly. With phones it's getting dangerous - I saw one video of a woman falling into a cellar/basement opening that was wiiiiide open on the sidewalk and the news the other day ran a bit about someone on their phone on a crosswalk getting hit by a truck. At least with TV you're sitting in one place. [Edited 7/21/17 18:46pm] if it was just a dream, call me a dreamer 2
