The weakest entry in the series so far. Centered around a crazed ex-lover crashing a family man's Christmas Eve for a wild goose chase. Very Fatal Attraction-ish but meandering.

Where has this movie been all my life? It's probably already my favorite spy movie. I wish this had been a franchise for James Coburn. Campy and cool.

More of a docu than a movie but I enjoyed it.



Becoming Cary Grant. 4/5 though I didn't know anything about Cary Grant so it was insightful to me. I've loved hime on screen for a long-time now.

The Lego Batman Movie (2017) I loved it from start to finish, kids will enjoy it for the color and action, and I enjoyed for the one-liners and refs to other Batman/Superhero films....It's a 5 out of 5 the best Batman film since The Dark Knight (2008)....and I can't get this song out of my head "I'm Batman song"

The Get Down is a tv series which was recently cancelled due to it's high cost.

It was ok .. Jennifer Lawrence is always cool to watch though she makes anything worth it.

the host (2007) 3.5/5 - i caught this a few years ago, fairly close to the time of its release i believe. i recalled being a bit indifferent to it, but after liking snowpiercer and really liking okja a lot, i decided to give it a fresh viewing. it definitely starts with a bang, and it has many bizarre & inventive moments, but i still walked away feeling that somewhere in the last half the movie seemed to lose all momentum. by the end, i really felt fairly disengaged &, while i think it's too good to say i feel indifferent, i definitely walked away a touch unsatisfied. i'd recommend watching okja & snowpiercer first.

Due to various situations, we are not going out to see "Baby Driver" this weekend. Although, there's still time left today so you never know!

But we were at home last night and caught two, count 'em TWO, movies. The first one was the classic "Dodgeball". This movie gets funnier every time I watch it! Plus, I had a lot of beer and wine last night, so that helped. "Dodgeball" is full of great lines but my favorite will always be "ESPN 8 - the Ocho! If it's almost a sport, we have it!" Being drunk made all these great lines even funnier.

Then we watched the last half of "Grosse Pointe Blank". Sadly,

I WAS NOT DRUNK ENOUGH TO FIND THIS MOVIE EITHER FUNNY OR GOOD.

Honestly, I could have been drinking straight grain alcohol and still would have hated this movie. It's stupid. Now granted, I didn't tune in until about the time John Cusak was meeting Minnie Driver and asking her to the reunion. So maybe all kinds of fantastic things happened before that. Let me check Wikipedia...nope, this first half of this movie looks even worse than the last half.

The flim is filled with Cusacks, which is always a major problem. This one has John, Joan and Amy Cusak. Are there any Cusaks who WEREN'T in this turkey? I don't care enough to Google "All Cusaks who call themselves actors".

John Cusak was the Jonah Hill of the 90's. Ouch, that will leave a mark but it's true. Other than "Sixteen Candles", in which John Cusak played a nerd, he was in one crapfest after another. Proving that even a blind squirrel can find an acorn, in 2014 he finally was in a good movie - "Love and Mercy". But other than that, he's mainly famous for being one of the 10,000,000,000 obnoxious Chicago Cubs fans.

Maybe I'm venting because Cusak - who was the producer of this snorefest so he's to blame - sold out to Big Tobacco. For reasons that had nothing to do with anything other than accepting Big Tobacco's money in return for killing many young people, he had both his sister and Minnie Driver smoke. But only once. Therefore, you know those smoking scenes were bought and paid for by Big Tobacco.

How much of a creep do you have to be to take money for placing a product in a movie that you KNOW is going to kill people, and you KNOW the reason the product is in the movie is so that kids will take up using that product?

The more I think about this, the more disgusted I am with John Cusak. He's almost at a Denis Leary-level of scummyness. And that's pretty bad.

I want to enjoy today so I am going to quit writing about what a turd John Cusak is for selling out to Big Tobacco. Therefore, the ratings on the two movies I saw last night are:

"Dodgeball" - Five Wrenches You Have To Dodge out of five Wrenches You Have To Dodge

"Grosse Pointe Blank" - Zero point zero. It really is gross.

But I do want to say that THE performance of the movie IMO was Christopher Penn's protrayal of the gangster boss's son. He was PERFECT! He should have won an Academy Award. He was so good that I actually want to watch other Christopher Penn movies, starting with "True Romance". He played a character named Nicky Dimes - how can that be anything but awesome?!?

So now this summer is shaping up to be The Summer of Kurt Russell and Chris Penn. Also, I heard there is a movie called "Hobo With A Shotgun". !!!!!!!!!!!!! A hobo with a shotgun?!? It sounds like they made a movie specifically for me!

For rating purposes, we are giving Chris Penn

5/5...another masterpiece from tracy letts, presenting the many facets of family dysfunction via the untimely gathering of the weston family. so well cast (and maybe the first time i've ever enjoyed a performance from julia roberts)...do they give oscars for casting?

i highly recommend 'bone tomahawk' for inclusion in your kurt russell fest...great under the radar western, also starring one of my favorite character actors, richard jenkins.

cache 5/5 married couple is stalked & psychologically tormented. i know i saw this years ago, but i only had the vaguest memory of it, which really seems strange now because i found it completely gripping and absolutely perfect last night, and am now left wondering how i could almost completely forget about something i enjoyed so much.

i've been meaning to check that one out as well. it's been sitting on my netflix queue for months. i'll try to give it a watch this week.

According to a new study from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, depictions of tobacco use in top-grossing movies increased by a whopping 80 percent from 2015 to 2016.

Even though the number of tobacco use incidents (defined as cigarettes, cigars, pipes, hookah, smokeless tobacco products, and electronic cigarettes) declined from 2005 to 2010, the decline stopped after 2010. Sixty-seven percent of top-grossing, R-rated movies in 2016 had tobacco use in it, while 26 percent of “youth-rated” movies (G, PG, PG-13) had some in it.

Naturally, people are worried that by showing audiences more depictions of cool, hot young people smoking cancer sticks, they could be more at risk to start smoking themselves. “We’ve known for a while that the more you see smoking on screen, the more likely you are to see youth smoking cigarettes in real life,” author of the report and public health analyst for the CDC told CNN. A 2012 report from the U.S. surgeon general confirmed the casual relationship between depictions in movies to influence on young people, writing that “further efforts to decrease depictions of smoking in the movies is warranted.”

Last night my son and I watched the tour de force of comedy known as "Smokey and the Bandit". What an all-time classic!

I'd forgotten how funny the movie is. And how cool Burt Reynolds is. And what a stud Jerry Reed is. And how cute Sally Field is. And most of all, what a legendary comedic genius Jackie Gleason is. Yep, you get all that when you watch "Smokey and the Bandit" - and more! You get a hero dog:




You also get one of the absolute best-looking cars of all time:





I loved every minute of this movie. I especially loved all the CB chatter. CBs were HUGE back then. And man, were they fun! Everyone had a handle, and the lingo was a language all its own. We had a CB radio in our house, and we'd spend nights talking to Chrome Dome, Chicken Neck, Big Boss Gander, and whoever else was out and about. Breaker, breaker one-nine! This is the Loan Shark with a 10-20 on the bayou, chowing down groceries and gettin' right with old Grand Dad! Yeeeeeee haw!

Most of the movie's best dialogue was CB chatter from Jerry Reed. I had to translate most of it for my son, as he had no idea what "This is Mr. B., gearjammin' this rollin' refinery. You got a smokey?" and "This is Little Beaver. Put your foot on the floor, we got your back door" meant.

I think we all know what a genius Jackie Gleason was. But maybe you don't know what a stud Jerry Reed was. Well, let me fill you in!

"Like Django (Reinhardt), Chet and a few others, Jerry Reed created a unique style of guitar playing, one which will be carried on by admirers for generations to come," said musician David Hungate. Scholar John Knowles told Thomas Goldsmith, "His playing has the complexity of classical music but the rhythmic sense that comes from country, rock and gospel." And bass man Henry Strzelecki, who played on "Amos Moses," "Lord, Mr. Ford" and other Reed hits, said, "Jerry brought rhythm and blues and country together, and it came out funk. He's one of the finest talents we've known. And he made people happy. You couldn't be sad around Jerry."

Dude could ROCK. You should check him out, you won't be sorry.

If you haven't seen "Smokey and the Bandit" watch it. If you have, watch it again. BUT BE FOREWARNED - No matter how much you enjoy this movie, do NOT watch either of the sequels. They are as bad as this one is good.

I rate "Smokey and the Bandit" with 500 Sumbitches out of a possible 500 Sumbitches (which is how many times I estimate Jackie Gleason said "Sumbitch!" in this movie).

I've been close to watch this film on Netflix several times, but i haven't, is really that good?
