36 ... is that considered old?
Thing I'm losing is tolerance. I'm a lot less tolerant of rude, ignorant, stupid people than I use to be. I use to let stuff slide, but not anymore. Maybe its the beginnings of becoming a 'grumpy old man' later in life. |

No one is old. You get oldER, but you are not old. Let me prove it to you:
How old were you five years ago? Doesn't that seem young to you now? Of course it does. That means that five years from now, you will consider your present age as "young". Which really means that you are young right now!
See? You really never get old. Perhaps this is what Prince meant when he said time was a trick.
Now, as to what changes as I've gotten older (I'm now 58). I guess these things:
1. I don't bend like I used to. I keep telling myself to get into yoga/stretching but I haven't. However, I can still do pretty much anything athletically that I used to do. I'm stronger than I've ever been. I can still run fairly well. But if I fall or get hit, it hurts more than it used to
2. My hairline has receded a little. I don't think I'll ever go bald but I've got some gray in the temples and along my hairline. Nothing that a little Just for Men can't handle! (I highly recommend painting your hair, fellas)
3. Here's the biggie - I now know for a fact that I regret things I DIDN'T do way, way more than anything I ever did. I don't beat myself up over it, but there's no doubt that old saying is accurate. So if there's something you want to do, I heartily recommend doing it as soon as possible!
The thing to do is embrace every day. Don't waste time. I consider myself extremely fortunate that I've got good health (diabetes aside), but I now recognize that could be lost at any moment. So I no longer put stuff off. Do it now, and make other people happy! |

Thank god for that!!
I guess its all relative. Me and a mate went to a rave a couple of months back, all music from our era, late 90s early 2000s ... reunion night for a club we use to go to. Was a great atmosphere, all people our age or older, no trouble, no drunks, etc.
We headed in to town afterwards for the after party and the town centre was full of 18 to 25 year olds, fighting, staggering around drunk, throwing up. We both felt old that night, but glad to be so!

I think the one biggest "I didn't do it" that bugs me to this day are all the concerts I could have gone to but didn't ... especially the Prince Hit 'n' Run I missed out on.
What's your one biggest "didn't do it" regret?

LOL, so many, I can't choose just one! Here are some that come to mind:
1. Not going to see Bruce Springsteen in 1980. Frat brothers had an extra third row ticket but I passed. And then one week later, of course I became a giant Springsteen fanatic!
2. Same with Prince on the Triple Threat Tour. He played Houston on New Year's Eve in '82 (I think). I thought hard about going that night, but ultimately decided not to. Idiot!
3. Not buying a 1970 Shelby Mustang for peanuts back in the mid '80's. I got nostalgic and drove by my childhood home. The owners were outside, so we got to talking and they let me look at the house. I was about to leave when the owner said, "Hey look in the garage". There was a 1970 Shelby he'd taken away from his son! It was in primer but otherwise looked completely intact. Instead of offering him $5K to buy it, I excitedly said, "All you need to do is get that painted and it's a $10,000 car!" Which it would have been - then. It's a $125,000 car today. D'oh!
4. Similarly, I had a chance to buy a 3-fender-tag '70 Plymouth 'cuda convertible for $12,000 back in 1992 or '93. It was Panther Pink, the rarest of all colors. It had every single option possible except for a Hemi engine and a Shaker hood. It was a survivor, meaning EVERYTHING was original, including the paint. But I let a hole in the trunk pan scare me away. Moron! That's a $300,000 car today!
5. Not applying to be an astronaut. I almost certainly had NO shot at it, but I could have at least applied. Then I would have known for sure, but now I never will. Fool!

...Not that I'm dying to let the whole world into my personal life (just the Org is fine, but unfortunately this is Googlable) - but I AIN'T GOT DO DAMN REGRETS! When I was in 1st yr of Univ. I went *wild* - spent most of the time investigating the nightclubs of that city! If my CV gets fucked for the rest of my *life*, if I end up becoming *unemployed*,.. blah blah.... I *STILL* got that one year!! Memories I will NEVER forget! No FUCKING REGRETS. |

That's the best way to live. There are certain things in my life which I regret NOT doing when I had the chance so I learned early on that it's better to regret doing something than regret doing nothing. In regards the original question posed by ThisOne, I'd say that I'm not losing anything. Then again, I'm not old |

I have both regret for things done, and regret for things not done and honestly I struggle with the former way more than missed opportunities. Becoming a parent is the game changer. Its hard, if not impossible, to forgive yourself for hurting (even indirectly) the people its basically your job to protect. It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. We all need one another. ~ PRN |

Just when you think things will get better my wife gets ill. Maybe i should have hope and be more positive but every kick is a downer. It's strange when you're in that kind of position because you feel that everything is conspiring against you and just when you think things can't get any worse, they do. Even if somewhere in the back of your mind you know that things will improve in time, you doubt it ever will. Sometimes you just need someone else to remind you that things WILL get better and no matter how bad you may feel at the moment, you do have things to look forward to. Nobody can tell you to "be happy" or "think positively". All I can say is that things will improve so when you feel down, try to remember what you have rather than what you're missing. |

Sorry to be cynical, but sometimes things may get worse, much worse. Sometimes it takes too long to improve. |
