Phi Jackson won 11 rings (with HOF players) as a coach - as a GM, he's 80-166. He has no idea on how to be an executive - the constant coaching changes, giving Carmelo a no-trade clause, the Noah contract, having his henchmen attack Anthony via social media, undermining Hornacek during practice - he hasn't ended the drama, he's added to it. No wonder Porzingis and the other players are confused and ticked off. Thanks to Phil, no top free agent wants to come here. Other teams like the Warriors use elements of the triangle, but they adapted it to fit today's NBA. Not Phil - it's all ego with him, trying to prove what a fucking genius he is. Until he starts acting like a real GM, NY will continue to be one of the worst-run franchises in sports.
Lol.....Phil won 11 titles with 2 HOF per team excep when he had Rodman.
Pop has had 8 hof players has ONLY won 5 titles.
I'l ask the question again, what lights out score should the Celtics be trying to get?
Take off your Phil Jackson-colored glasses for a second - I'm talking about Phil the executive. As a GM, he is a complete FAILURE. He's great at blaming everyone but himself, yet HE put this roster together. If Hornacek had any balls, he'd tell Phil, let me run things my way or coach the damn team yourself. If the Knicks were capable of winning 60-plus games, he'd be on the sidelines, but he won't tarnish that precious "legacy" of his. Numbers don't lie....80-166, 4 different coaches, no direction & constant dysfunction. I call it stealing James Dolan's money. Is Paul George a free agent? If I'm Ainge, that's the player I target. Blame your owner. Phil is not.....a GM as u have clearly stated. FOOLS multiply when WISE Men & Women are silent. |

Eastern Conference Finals
Game 3
Boston Celtics 111 Cleveland Cavaliers 108
The Cleveland Cavaliers blew out the Boston Celtics on their own home court in the first two games of this series, and they looked well on thier way to another series sweep, especially since they were coming home for the next two games. In addition the Celtics got some horrible news when it was revealed that Isaiah Thomas had reaggravated a hip injury he suffered back last March that would sideline him for the remainder of the postseason. It appeared the Celtics had no chance to get back into this series.
And early on, it looked as though this game would be a repeat of the first two games. The Cavs hit nine 3-pointers in the first half and led by as much as 21 points in the third quarter.
But then the luck of the Irish once again blessed the Celtics. They began clawing their way back into this game, led by Marcus Smart, playing for the injured Isaiah Thomas, who scored 27 points in this game including seven 3-pointers. Kyrie Irving led the Cavs with 29 points and seven assists while Kevin Love scored 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Tristan Thompson added 18 points and 13 rebounds. However, Lebron James had an uncharacteristicially poor shooting night, scoring just 11 points on 4 for 13 shooting from the floor. This would prove to be critical, as the Celtics stormed all the way back to take the lead with 4:20 remaining in the game. The lead would go back and forth down the stretch along with a few ties, including a 108-108 tie with 10.7 seconds remaining in the game. Then Marcus Smart dribbled the ball towards the basket and dished it out to Avery Bradley who shot a 3-pointer with seconds winding down that bounced off the rim and off the glass before finally dropping into the net with just 0.1 second remaining. Bradley finished with 20 points but none more critical than that final shot that gave the Celtics the unexpected victory. Al Horford scored 16 points for Boston while Kelly Olynyk scored 15 points off the bench and Jae Crowder added 14 points.
Cleveland leads series 2-1.

I like LBJ, but he deserves the criticism he's going to face today from the talking heads; homeboy disappeared in the second half and Cleveland should not have lost this game. This team still does not know how to keep its foot on another team's neck . . .

This is the natural ebb and flow of the playoffs. LBJ had a bad game. It's hard to blow out an NBA team 3 times in a row. It's harder than it looks to sweep. They were on their way midway in the 3rd.
The rest of the game was an aberration for both teams.
There will be some overreaction until tomorrow night.
LBJ had one of the worst playoff nights of his career. It took a bad 3-point shooter (Smart, 27% career average) hitting several threes to trigger the comeback.
It happens.
It just means the Cavs will get one 2 less nights of rest.

Western Conference Finals
Game 4
Golden State Warriors 129 San Antonio Spurs 115
The Golden State Warriors held a commanding lead against the injury depleted San Antonio Spurs and were determined to close this series out as quickly as possible. The Spurs, realizing the inevitable at this point, made a change to their starting lineup, starting Manu Ginobili in what may have been his final professional game of his career. Responding to the crowd yelling "Manu, Manu", Ginobili took the opening tip and scored the first points of the game with a left handed scoop shot. After a Warriors bucket, LaMarcus Aldridge hit a midrange jumper to put the Spurs up 4-2.
That would be the Spurs' last lead of this game and this season.
Golden State quickly turned on the jets and took control of this game, They led by 11 points at the end of the first quarter, but the Spurs would cut their lead to eight points by the middle of the second quarter. Unfortunately they would get no closer as they were overmatched on the floor. Stephen Curry led the Warriors with 36 points while Kevin Durant scored 29 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and Draymond Green added 16 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists. Kyle Anderson led the Spurs with 20 points while Manu Ginobili scored 15 points and dished out seven assists in his likely final game. Pau Gasol and Patty Mills each added 14 points while Johnathon Simmons added 13 points. LaMarcus Aldridge struggled once again, scoring just eight points on 4 for 11 shooting. The Warriors now return to the NBA Finals and await what appears to be their seocnd rematch against the Cleveland Cavaliers unless the Boston Celtics somehow recreate their postseason magic.
Golden State wins series 4-0.

Game 4
Boston Celtics 99 Cleveland Cavaliers 112
The Boston Celtics shocked the Cleveland Cavaliers when they came back from a 21 point deficit to steal a victory in game 3 of this series, and they were hoping to use this as momentum to even up the series and take it back home to Beantown. The Cavs were ready to redeem themselves from a poor second half performance in game 3 to take a commanding lead.
However, the Celtics came out strong and led by as much as 12 points in the first half. A big reason for that was the foul trouble Lebron James got into, as he drew four fouls in the first half, putting his team in jeopardy. The Celtics would take a 10 point lead into halftime.
But Kyrie Irving would pick up the slack for Lebron. He brought the Cavs back into the game, scoring 19 of his playoff career high 42 points in a five minute stretch in the third quarter. The Cavs would take the lead with about three minutes remaining in the third and would extend that lead in the fourth quarter thanks to Kyrie Irving, Kevin Love, who finished with 17 points and 17 rebounds, and Lebron James, who despite his early foul trouble finished with 34 points. Avery Bradley led the Celtics with 19 points while Jae Crowder finished with 18 points and eight rebounds. Al Horford added 16 points while Kelly Olynyk added 15 points, but the Celtics went cold in the fourth quarter. That was most evident by the play of Marcus Smart, who came off a huge game in game 3 with a dud in this game, scoring just eight points on just one field goal on nine attempts. The Cavs now look to close out this series in Boston.
Cleveland leads series 3-1.

This is two years in a row that Golden State is oh-so-lucky to make it into the Finals; let's stop acting like they're just whuppin' ass, left and right. Oklahoma City had them down 3-1 last year before in- explicably losing the WCF, and this year, Leonard's injury probably proved to be too much.

Nick Wright from FS1 feels the same way. You can find a clip of him talking about that same thing on The Herd's social media pages.
GS has stepped over a lot of injury-riddled opponents during their 3-year run. including the Cavs, who they beat for the O'Brien without Love or Irving in the lineup.
You can only play the teams in front of you, and winning 12 in a row in the playoffs is not easy even against injured teams. If they beat the Cavs -- who will be no worse than 10-2 coming into the Finals as defending champs, and at full strength -- then we can appreciate their season.

Eastern Conference Finals
Game 5
Cleveland Cavaliers 135 Boston Celtics 102
The Cleveland Cavaliers came into this season as the NBA champions and were prohibitive favorites to return to the NBA Finals this year. However, the regular season turned out to be more challenging than they had anticipated it would be, and after a few losing streaks along the way the Cavs fell behind the Boston Celtics for the top seed in the Eastern Conference. Many pundits wondered publicly whether they had enough to make it to the NBA Finals this time around, but after steamrolling through the first two rounds of the playoffs, it seemed almost a given that they would be favored over the Celtics. It was just a matter of when and how many games it would take.
As it turned out, it would require just five games. Lebron James made absolutely no sceret of his desire to finish out these series as soon as possible, and despite coming into Boston with a 3-1 series lead, the Cavs wasted no time in dispatching the Celtics. They took the lead out of the gate, and after a Marcus Smart 3-pointer to tie the opening bucket the Cavs blazed ahead and never looked back. It would be an historic night for Lebron James, as he scored 35 points and moved ahead of Michael Jordan to become the NBA's all-time postseason scoring leader. Kyrie Irving scored 24 points and Kevin Love added 15 points and 11 rebounds. Avery Bradley led the Celtics with 23 points while Gerald Green added 14 points and Jae Crowder added 11 points, but the Celtics simplye were overmatched and had no way of stopping the Cavs from advancing to their third straight NBA Finals matchup with the Golden State Warriors.
Cleveland wins series 4-1.

I'm speaking for myself when I say this, "This Entire NBA season has been thee Worse from start to finish." The season sucked, the NBA all star weekend was Horrible beyond forgivable especially the slam dunk contest and all star game, and now the playoffs." First the NFL become softer on the way the defense can tackle the offense making it a touch football league. Now the NBA is becoming a get all the greatest players on one team and hand out super dumb high contracts to bench players with stats of 1.2 points; 1 rebound; 0 assists players. SMDH!!!
This off season will be another with high ass contracts paid out once again. |

The problem with the NBA's 2016-17 season is that the Warriors and Cavs have been the 2 pieces of bread coming together, but the rest of the league has failed to fill the sandwich.
Other than great individual seasons from Harden and Westbrook, there were no teams that posed even a plausible threat to either conference champion. Young teams like the T-Wolves are years away, and the high seeds in both conferences this playoffs played like low seeds from years past.
I'm actually glad more money is going to the players, they're the reason the game is so profitable. I just hope the current crop of FA's make wise decisions to join teams that can truly challenge the Cavs and Warriors with their help.

I do not think Westbrook had a great season. His triple-double average is a sexy stat but I'm not impressed by a gunner who is a turn-over prone ball hog with a below average shooting percentage averaging 31-10-10 on a sorry ass team.

He was a scoring machine and fearless.
But, I wouldn't want a six foot gunner who is a ball hog on my team either. The fact Iverson took a
shitty squad to the Finals speaks to his abilities and especially the abilities of Larry Brown as a coach.
Westbrook may be close to Iverson but Billy Donovan is no Larry Brown. |

I remember discovering the league as a kid hiding a small black-and-white television under the bedcovers while watching the tape delay of the 1979 finals go way beyond midnight. Then the next year brought Bird and Magic and I was instantly elevated to the not-past-your-bedtime color television of the family living area.
And like the beauty of that smaller league of the 80s it does feel a bit to me like a coin flip held between the Lakers and the Celtics right now. On the other hand, always having great competitive balance can also become quite stale.
I'm going to guess that this Cavaliers/Warriors and Lebron streak is just going to eventually work itself out and end up being another astonishing blip on the radar screen of a game I love.
In other words, this is likely going to be extremely fun. We might be witnessing the greatest player ever in basketball going up against two former MVPs and perhaps the greatest shooter ever.
I'm a kid under the covers again. |

Uptown you called it becaue I said 4-1 but obviously I will be wrong by friday night. Lebron need to go to Spurs and bring chris paul, carmelo, and win with Kawhi Leonard and Greg Pop. Would love to see Greg and Lebron team up as coach and player. That will be a dynasty to eclipse GSW.
